Are you planning to visit Spain for an epic trip or even a city break? If so, then there are several things that you need to know before you start the journey. Many travelers think they know more about Spain but end up getting frustrations. The country is so diverse and complex and hence you should learn one or two things about it. Here are the 7 things one must know before traveling to Spain.

Here people eat very late

From Breakfast, Lunch or dinner, Spaniards eat very late. Lunch is probably from 2 pm and dinner is eaten around 10 pm. Unlike Americans, who are very sensitive to what they eat and the time they take their meals, Spaniards can eat very late. Therefore, if you’re visiting Spain, you need to adjust your meal time. It sounds funny, right?” don’t worry, you won’t get hungry because tapas are available all day.

Things don’t always start on time

In Spain, it’s only the official things that will start on time. If you have agreed to meet up with a group of Spanish friends, then don’t be surprised if they don’t keep time. You may be forced to wait longer for events to take place. For this reason, make sure you have packed your patience with you before landing in Spain.

There’s limited English in Spain

Majority of tourists may speak English but most of Spaniards don’t speak English. They may not have English Language materials. Although you will find one or two Spaniards speaking English, just bear in mind that English is not a Native Language here. For this reason, if they don’t respond to your queries in English, don’t be pissed off.

In Spain, Siesta is not a thing

Most of the Spaniards don’t sleep during siesta. It is also very short just for recharging. Spaniards don’t get more sleep at this time because it is likely to affect their sleeping schedule. I also believe that siesta isn’t a thing in Spain because this is the time they are actually supposed to be taking their lunch.

Most of the Spanish food is local

You will eat where the locals eat. You need to follow in the footsteps of locals. For this reason, you should be always looking for restaurants filled with locals. This is one of the most surprising things to discover in Spain. You will learn a lot from the locals. Although you may be having issues with the language they use, just try and fit in.

Although Crime rate is low, watch out for Pickpockets

Look, this isn’t something to be surprised about, it happens in almost every city in the world. Although there are lower crime rates in Barcelona, watch out for pickpockets. If you don’t want to be a victim of pickpockets, be sensible and put most of your belongings in front of you. Take extra care when you are in a congested place.

Shops may close in the middle of the day

In Spain, shops may close as early as from 1 PM to later in the day when Spaniards are taking long lunch breaks. However, big shops and supermarkets may stay open in the bigger cities. For this reason, don’t be surprised if you see people closing shops in the middle of the day. Learn more about traveling from www.traveldrafts.com.
