If you’re anything like me, you sometimes feel like you’re being pulled in a hundred different directions at the same time. Yes, you manage to fulfill just about everything on your “to do” list, but you can end up feeling drained, empty and exhausted or even totally overwhelmed. When you’re feeling like this, you know you've hit a wall and your inner well, or Inner Sanctum, need attention and nurturing. If you’re in the midst of a meltdown or inner crisis, youprobably bombarded with thousands of self-questioning thoughts: Why is my life so crazy? Why didn't I say no to that new project? How am I supposed to run all these errands? When is there time for me? How can workout (or relax or get some down time) with all these pressures pulling me in a thousand different directions? How did you get to the meltdown point? There are as many ways as there are people but the main thing is, you weren't paying attention and you piled too many things on your already full plate. You may have been so focused on taking care of everyone and everything else, whether its your business or your job, your spouse or your family, that you forgot to pay attention to yourself. As a result, you wound up blindsided by a sudden cold, headache/migraine, or other physical and/or emotional symptoms that forced you to take some down time and nurture yourself. (Note: I’m not referring to severe medical issues here. For those, you want to seek out your chosen medical and complementary health professional.) The lesson is, pay attention to yourself and make sure you take good care of yourself so you can continue to take good care of your loved ones. Today, we’re so wired-in and wired-up that we’re constantly on-call. Most of the time, we can handle it, after all we are SuperWomen, right? But, there are times when we need to refill, refuel and rejuvenate our Inner Sanctum. And, that’s why it’s important to pay attention and be in-tune with You - SuperWoman. When you’re in-tune and paying attention, you’ll know when your Inner Sanctum is running low and you need to take some action - or inaction, in this case. If you have a tendency to run on fumes, have bouts of overwhelm/exhaustion or show physical and/or emotional symptoms mentioned earlier, it may mean you’re exhausting your Inner Sanctum. Here are some things you can do to get in-tune with You and keep your Inner Sanctum full and refreshed: 1. Do a self-check every day: check-in with your body, mind and emotions to see if they’re in their normal (for you) state. 2. Practice listening to your body’s stress signals like, fatigue, headache, body ache, indigestion / digestive issues, heightened emotions and etc. 3. Spend at least an hour a week, or 15 minutes a day, in meditation, deep relaxation and/or a warm bath. 4. Make sure to do some sort of exercise several times a week. It doesn't matter what style you choose, just make sure to get some movement into your daily routine. It can be as simple as walking or as rigorous as Cross-fit, just get moving. 5. Create some positive affirmations that you can use on a daily basis and include them in your meditation time. 6. Learn to set healthy boundaries at work and at home. Sometimes, this means learning to say “no” when you need to. 7. Tell yourself, “I love you!” every morning and before you go to bed at night. Keep a post-it on your bathroom mirror to help you remember. If you already have a daily and weekly practice that keeps your SuperWoman Inner Sanctum filled and rejuvenated, kudos to you. Share what you do and how it helps you. If you’re just starting out, share what’s working best for you and where you still need attention. Stop by my website at GiaCilento.com to comment.
