“9 Stories About Fearless Spiritual People”
Down through history in all the spiritual texts they talk about people being fearless, it’s one of the attributes of being spiritual. Here are a few people written about in the spiritual text who were very fearless… and a some people from the last few decades.
The People of Paris - After the attacks on the people of Paris you would think there would be lots of fear… yet just the opposite took place. One man who lost is wife in the attacks recorded a segment on Youtube telling the terrorist that they had not won, because he would not hate. He lost is wife, his child was without a mother, but if he were to hate and become fearful…they will have won… and he would not allow that to happen. If that’s not fearlessness I don’t know what is.
David and the Den of Lions - This story in the bible talks about one man and his great faith in God. He is unjustly thrown to the lions as punishment for something he didn’t do… but he still has great faith, and he begins to pray and the lions leave him alone. I wonder how many of us would keep praying.
Arjuna and the Great Battle - This story from the Bhagavad Gita talks about how Arjuna being afraid because he is going to battle with his own relatives. But Krishna tells him that he must not fear, that he must play his part, for no soul has ever been lost… we go on forever. It’ all about learning lessons, about karma, and the process of becoming self-realized.
Mala Yousafzai - In 2012 a 17 year old girl riding a school bus in Pakistan was shot 3 times for attending school… but she survived. She did not want to be remembered as the girl who was shot, she wanted everyone to remember her as the girl who stood up agains all odds. Eventually she received the Nobel Peace Prize, and was honored as one of the worlds 100 most influential people in Time Magazine.
Confucius and Telling the Truth - And there is the story of Confucius who would tell the truth no matter what. And to his dismay many of the rulers of that time didn’t like hearing the truth… and thus he was banished for many years. But even so he kept teaching a small group of disciples… and eventually he was asked to come back and teach everyone in China.
Every Immigrant - Anyone who leaves his homeland and goes off searching something better has to be fearless. It’s not easy to leave everything we know and travel for hours or sometimes days to get some where new. Then to be all alone, not knowing a soul, learning a new language, and starting from scratch… it’s not easy. But millions of people have done this in the US and other countries… and they are all fearless. In fact my father came from India all by himself in 1946 just before partition, and it was hard… thus to me my father was also a fearless person.
St. Francis of Assisi - And there is St. Francis of Assisi who went to dinner with a man who hated him and wanted to kill him. And even though he knew the soup was poisoned… he ate it anyway. But the poison had no effect on him and later the angry man got down on his knees and begged St. Francis for forgiveness. How much more fearless and faithful could a person be tha
St. Francis of Assisi.
Rosa Parks - A simple seamstress who climbed on a bus in Montgomery Alabama and took her rightful place in the middle of the bus with pride. She started the whole civil rights movement… from which Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. went on to create equality for all. That’s truly being fearless!
Jesus - And there is the passion of Christ. How many of us would run away in the face of having our flesh ripped open, and then made to carry our own cross to be crucified upon… which is one of the most agonizing ways to die. And then to say “Forgiven them Father, for they no not what they do”… that’s amazing fearlessness and faithful.
And so it is… that we too are to be fearless every day of our life. We can learn from all these fearless people and make changes and be fearless. Every person deep down inside has the possibility of being fearless… all we have to do is stand up, be counted on, and know in our heart that we can change the world.
Many Blessings to Everyone!
