Picture a solid oak oval table and 14 soft leather chairs in a lush office.

You are sitting in the seat at the far right of the picture above.

At the head of the table, sitting in the other chairs are all the people you have come to admire over the last few years.

Let me name you a few of mine: Timothy Ferris, Yannick Silver, Michael Gerber, Steven Covey, Anthony Robbins, Barry Warren, ....

I connect with these people because I have either met them in person, or have read their books and said to myself: "I like that, I admire this person and want to be like them."

What is the topic of conversation in this boardroom? Me.

My Life.

My Decisions.

My Goals.

As I close my eyes when I go to sleep at night, I go over my day as though I was reporting it to these people...people I look up to and respect.

Without doing your homework, The Boardroom has no effect. You need to know about these people. Read their books, know what they believe in. Call them if you can or meet them in person.

And while you are imagining...you might as well add some people on your board whose time has passed. Yes, people who have died.

Again, some of mine are: Jesus, Thomas Edison and Henry Ford. Study their lives too. Find out what drove these people, and imagine them as your mentors.

It took me a lot of guts to set up this board of directors. It took me even more to tell people about it. Now however, when I have a decision to make that I am unsure of the result, I just close my eyes and imagine myself sitting at the head of this table.

I ask each person present, what they would do if they were wearing my shoes.

I don't know exactly what they would say. But I have a very close estimation of how they would react based on what I have read about them.

I am also reminded of their values and principles as I think about them.

Try it for a few weeks keeping all the details to you.

Mentors are very important, but sometimes you need your imagination to help you along for just a few seconds.
