Choosing Hope Over Fear

What a great topic for the times we're in. I received a piece of this blog from the head hunting business and as you can see, received it earlier in 2009.

When I got the courage to do what I had felt was my life purpose, I picked a company name that reflected what I had searched for in my life, and many are searching for today- Hope and Serenity. I've got them each day, and can coach you to find them within yourself. They are choices we make and live with.

"Like a lot of you, we're entering into 2009 with mixed feelings--while the economic collapse of the financial sector last fall and it's ripple effects are very real and are impacting millions, we are cautiously optimistic that the world economy will stabilize and begin to recover in the latter half of the year.

I'm often asked how the economy is impacting our business. With far fewer openings, each hire faces intense scrutiny. Every new hire needs to be a 'rock star' that can come into a company and generate value and revenue in the first month. There's little appetite for 'on the job training' or 'general athlete' hires.

Adding to the difficulty in finding the right people is the housing crisis--too many candidates are trapped in an underwater mortgage or stagnant housing market making relocation difficult at best. Finally, many candidates are lulled into an (often false) sense of security within their current employer making even the thought of changing jobs right now difficult.

So while there are a large number of people who have been displaced in this economy, there's still a very tight job market. We've been incredibly fortunate to have our clients' trust as we've launched several new searches in December and January.

I, like many of you, am feeling the impact of the economic times. Anyone know someone who wants to buy or rent a custom built town house in a spectacular location in historic Unionville? Anyone worried about employment? If timing is everything, as things would have it, I couldn't have picked a more interesting time to go back to school and start a new venture.

Because hope and serenity were a choice I made years ago, and have got deeply involved in what I call the "Co-Creative Process of Life Recovery", I have little fear about the future. I live the day as best I can. Inside, hope and serenity tell me things will work out well but possibly not how I may expect! They will work out OK.
