The holidays are approaching quicker than you know, and it seems it will soon be the season for baking cookies and treats. Don’t leave your dog out of these times of fun; go ahead and have some fun with the kids as you make yummy treats that your dog will absolutely adore!
Doggie Cookies
What you’ll need:n½ Cup of cornmeal
6 Tablespoons of oil
1 tablespoons of water or meat broth (beef is great)
2 Cups of whole-wheat flou
1 Rolling pi
Bone shaped cookie cutters
Cookie sheet
What to do:
Mix all the dry ingredients (cornmeal and flour) together, then add the wet ingredients (oil and water or meat broth). Use your hands to mix the dough thoroughly. If it feels too dry, adding a few drops of water should do the trick. If it feels too wet, go ahead and add a teaspoon of flour until it feels soft, but not too sticky. Be careful not to knead the mixture too much, or the dough will become tough and hard to work with. Roll out the mixture to about a ¼” thick on a flour dusted surface. Then, cut out the dough with the cookie cutters. Place cookies on the cookie sheet. Next, bake in the oven at 350°, for about 30-35 minutes, or until they are lightly browned. Be sure to let them cool completely before feeding them to your happy pet!
Doggie Carob Chips: Bark
What you’ll need:
4 Cups of carob chips (NOT chocolate…it is harmful to dogs!)n½ Cup of creamy peanut buttern½ Cup of dry roasted peanuts or chopped walnutsn¼ Teaspoon of cinnamo
1 Cookie Sheet
Aluminum foil
Microwaveable bowl
What to do:
First, in a bowl, melt the carob chips in the microwave for 30 seconds. Take it out and stir with a wooden spoon, then place it back in the microwave for 30 seconds more, or until melted. Next, stir in the peanut butter and microwave again for an additional 15-20 seconds. Take it out and stir the ingredients once again to ensure they mix thoroughly. Third, add the nuts and the cinnamon, stirring the mixture so that it completely coats the nuts. Next, line the cookie sheet with aluminum foil and lightly spray the foil with nonstick cooking spray (so the mixture won’t stick). Pour the mixture onto the foiled cookie sheet and spread it out evenly. Next, chill it for 15 minutes in the freezer or for 30 minutes in the refrigerator, or until it is hard. Finally, remove the bark and break it into roughly 1” x 2” pieces. If it is stored in an airtight container, it can last up to 2 weeks time. It makes about 70 pieces.
The holidays are a fun time for baking and cooking. Don’t leave your dog out by forgetting to give them some new tasty treats. Kids love helping their mom make recipes for the family pet. it is a great way to spread the holiday among your family! Have great up and coming Happy Holidays!
