"Let the beauty of what you love, be what you do." -- Rumi
Do you get excited when you get up to go to work everyday? Does your work fulfill you? When your work gives you energy and satisfies you, you have the opportunity to fill joy on an ongoing basis.
"I love my work," says Tommy, a hair stylist. "I've been doing this for 20 years, and, yes, I get tired at the end of the week. Anyone who says they don't is lying. But I love it! I get to interact with people. I like to work all day long with appointments back to back. I get wrapped up in what I'm doing. I'm focused and I want to give them the best. When my father died last April, work saved me."
If you're not doing a job or volunteer work that you love, what gets in the way? Are you concerned with not making enough money? Are you worried that you won't meet your family obligations? Find a way to restructure your life, and perhaps simplify your lifestyle, to start doing what you love. If you’re not ready to make the full leap, bring what you love into your life on a part-time or volunteer basis. Doing what you love, even in small doses, will bring joy to your life and give you the chance to contribute your gifts.
What small step can you take today to move toward doing what you love? Take that step. Happiness will follow.
