Dr. Alexandra Gayek is known worldwide for her untraditional approach to health, the Science of Being Well NETwork. It is quite different even from what most would call alternative medicine, because it takes the same sort of approach to health as “The Secret” takes to life.nnDr. Gayek used to be a traditional doctor using the standard practice of exams, labs, drugs, and diets to prevent, diagnose and treat disease. Since leaving her practice, she decided that not only do those things not heal disease, but they can actually hinder the healing process.nnThe Science of Getting Rich was written by Wallace D. Wattles in 1910. From it sprang the more recent hit movie and book, “The Secret” by Rhonda Byrne. Wattles’ Science of Being Well is a spinoff of that idea, and Dr. Gayek agrees with him, that anyone can heal him or herself, whether the problem is a cold sore or a cancer.nnDr. Gayek is more interested in the miracle of life than the science behind it. Modern medicine looks only at chemical changes in the body to explain how certain things happen. It uses this information to come up with new drugs and procedures to promote healing. What about the body itself, though?nnWhen you get a cut, how does your body fix it? When you cut your hair, how does it grow back? Why do you have a wart one year but notice it’s gone the next? While medical knowledge can explain some things, it can never explain the force behind what the body does for itself. That force has been described as God, miracles, or natural laws of the universe, but whatever it is, it’s undeniable.nnIs health for nerds? Dr. Gayek believes it is. Think back to your adolescent days. Those who followed the rules of parents and teachers were nerds. Those who rebelled were popular. There are authority figures all around us as adults, whether it is our still-living parents, doctors, government health officials, or spouses.nnThis rebellious spirit might explain why men in particular are reluctant to go to the doctor when sick. It also explains why people eat the way they do, and why they participate in potentially harmful behaviors regarding sex, smoking, drinking, and extreme sports. Those who eat right and exercise aren’t called nerds. They’re called health nuts.nnWhen it comes right down to it, everyone wants to be healthy. Being sick interferes with having fun. Only when you let go of the rebellious spirit can you begin to heal yourself from the inside out. No more chronic disease! No more medications by the handful!
