I bet you have never had anyone encourage you to be a failure before! Seriously, learning to fail forward will catapult you to success and happiness. The key to understanding failure is that when you fail YOU ARE NOT A FAILURE! Take the “you” out of failure. It is not personal and it has nothing to do with you as a person. It is a process. You've failed many times, although you may not remember. You fell down the first time you tried to walk. You almost drowned the first time you tried to swim. Did you hit the ball the first time you swung the bat? Heavy hitters, the ones who hit home runs, also strike out a lot. R.H. Macy failed seven times before his store in New York caught on. English novelist John Creasy got 753 rejection slips before he published 564 books. Babe Ruth struck out 1,330 times, but he also hit 714 home runs. Don't worry about failure. Worry about the chances you miss when you don't even try. n Now it is time to learn that failing is essential for growth and success. Failing doesn’t mean what it did in school. Failing in the “real world” means learning and growing. There are many stories of great men and women and if you do your research on each and every one, they all had failures, disappointments, and problems. Read biographies of people you admire and you will learn the only way to live your dreams is to move forward or as John Maxwell states, “fail forward.” n To achieve your dreams, you must embrace adversity and make failure a regular part of your life. If you’re not failing, you’re probably not really moving forward. If you’re willing to stay determined, work according to a plan, and keep getting up when you get knocked down, you will be able to achieve your goals – and someday your dreams.
