The war with the British finished in 1776 and that’s where is all started. It must have been incredible to be present at the first anniversary of separation from the British crown and free to make your own future and it’s not mush different today in that every year July 4th is an opportunity to demonstrate that feeling of freedom.nnFor those reading this article who aren’t native to the United States Of America, it may be difficult to understand the significance of the day of the day but I guess it’s a mixture of a number of days. One of the most patriotic nations when it comes to celebrating their national day is Ireland when St Patrick’s Day cards are exchanged and everyone has a good party but Independence eclipses this. It’s more like Christmas in the middle of summer because not only is it a great party and a national holiday but presents are exchanged as well. I suppose in some ways, to most Americans, July 4th is actually more special than December 25th.nnWhen it’s a party in the summer then it’s a great opportunity for outdoor cooking and an Independence Day BBQ has to be in the offing. The classic American staples for the barbecue smoker are Ribs and Pulled Pork, both finger licking good and ideal for stamping your own individuality on the dish with some homemade BBQ sauce. It’s the perfect finger food for a relaxed atmosphere.nnWhen it comes to gifts then barbecue accessories also make for excellent BBQ gift ideas because they can be used on the day and will be very popular. Sometimes it’s difficult to find a present for the man of the house (and my stereotypical man is in fact the chef when it comes to the barbecue) and barbecue accessories are relatively inexpensive yet there’s a huge variety to go at.nnA great choice is a set of BBQ branding irons so that he can play around when cooking steaks. Some branding irons consist simply of a triangular iron with a letter on each side (R = rare, M = medium & W = well done) but that doesn’t guarantee that he can cook them correctly so it make be better to get one that's customised or maybe personalised with his initials.nnIf it’s novelty that’s the order of the day then why not go for novelty barbecue aprons? There’s an interesting selection ranging from stars and stripes through humorous right to some which are best described as “racey”.nnA good practical Independence Day BBQ gift is a Barbecue Thermometer. Not only is it a electronic gadget (always go down well with men), it will of course help ensure that the food is cooked to perfection so you may have a vested interest in acquiring one depending on the culinary skills of your man. To cap it all, you can also get wireless ones so there’s no excuse for him not to help with the salad preparations!nnIf safety and convenience are your thing then another great idea is an electric charcoal lighter. Just build up your charcoal, insert the lighter and leave it for 10 minutes and low and behold you’ve got the perfect fire. Just give the charcoal another 30 minutes or so to settle and you’ll be ready to cook.nnThere’s lots more to go at but I hope that you can see how simple, cost effective and practical an Independence Day Barbecue gift may be. Have a great party!n
