Goal For It! The Magic Of Writing It Down

Names have not been changed. True story. Camille set a goal and wrote it down. (You've no doubt heard that a goal not written down is only a wish, right?) Well, she wrote that she would have ten thousand dollars in her hands by, say, March 31st, 2000. Life went on. She got wrapped up in the day to day routine and pretty much forgot about her goal. March 31st, 2000 came along and she was standing in line at the bank preparing to make a deposit. Suddenly her brow furrowed with curiosity as she became conscious of the date. Slowly she turned the check over that she was about to deposit, looked at the amount, and realized that it was a check for $10,000 . . . made out to her father. Yes, on that day she had $10,000 in her hand, but whe was making a deposit for her father. How strange is that? Another true story. John and Barbara wanted a Prevost Motorcoach (a very upscale recreational vehicle, similar to the kind in which rock stars often travel.) They were passionate about this dream, did their homework and found a picture from a magazine that was precisely the kind they wanted. They cut it out, put it on the fridge, and went on with their life. The day came that they were able to purchase their dream vehicle. When they decided to remove the magazine reminder from their fridge, something caused them to pause. They pulled it down, and inspected it very closely and realized through some details in the text that not only did they get an identical machine, but the very one that was photographed for the article of that major national magazine. What is the magic behind goal setting? Wherein lies the power of writing a goal down? What went wrong when a goal written down is not miraculously accomplished? Writing a goal down is vitally important. Whether you ultimately prosper or not may hinge on this one thing. But even more important is selecting the right goal for you, and wording it very carefully. Determining your priorities is another fundamental element in effective goal setting. So you want a million dollars, where does it lie on your scale of priorities? Did you know that if your goals are haphazardly set, you might reach them at the expense of other objectives that are more important to you? How do you keep from getting bit by the "be careful what you pray for, because you just might get it" bug? A goal set properly is one of the most powerful things the world has ever known. The highly effective people that make history and enjoy true prosperity have discovered the proper use of goal setting. And, in fact, everyone in the world is using the principles behind that process all of the time without even knowing it. Where we end up is a direct result of Universal Law, either consciously applied, or unconsciously fallen prey to. The problem is, that our mind usually follows a path of least resistance; and our thoughts, without effort, will tend to find lower ground like the runoff of fallen rain. So if you knew you could not fail, what would your goals be? To seriously consider that question is the first step. Secondly, you need to understand that the part of your mind that sets the goal is not the same part of the mind that carries out the order. Most goal-setters meet shipwreck because they keep the goal in the part of their mind that only knows how to set it.
