Help Alleviate Muscle Aches and Pains Using Essential Oils

Most of us never think about the muscles in our bodies until we experience some sort of discomfort either from strains, sprains and the like. So how many muscles are in the human body? From head to toe - a whopping 650 different muscles! Take a walk and you’re using 200 different muscles. It takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown. So whether you’re on an exercise program, love to play sports, or try to fit in those weekend warrior projects, you can use essential oils to help alleviate many muscle aches and pains. These include massage, simple massage oils to make, hot compresses and baths. Marjoram and Rosemary are useful essential oils for muscle aches and pains.

Here’s a few suggestions to get you started:

Get Up & Go Warming Blend
Good to massage into muscles before exercising andngoing out in cold weather and to stimulate circulation:

4 drops Rosemaryn3 drops Lemo

2 drops Lavende
2 drops Junipe
1 drop Spruce

Mix the essential oils together and add to 1 ounce of sweet almond oil.

Calming Blend for Muscle Spasmsn5 drops Marjoramn3 drops Rosemaryn2 drops Lavende
2 drops Orange

Mix the essential oils together and add to 1 ounce of sweet almond oil.

Relaxing Bath for Stiff & Sore Musclesn6 drops Rosemaryn5 drops Junipe
3 drops Lavende
2 cups Epsom Salts

Mix the essential oils into the salts and add to a hot bath and soak for 25 minutes.

Why Marjoram, Sweet- (Origanum marjorana)?

Sweet Marjoram originated in the Mediterranean, Egypt and North Africa. The aroma is sweet, a little warm, slightly peppery, hinting of camphor. A perennial herb with dark green leaves and small white flowers, it was used in weddings to symbolize honor, happiness, and love. Used for centuries in different cultures to help relieve muscle spasms and an antidote to poison and for its antiviral, digestive, fungicidal and sedative properties.

Some aromatherapy uses are for: menstrual cramps, colic, headaches, indigestion, constipation and excess gas, soothes muscular aches and pains, arthritis, rheumatism, spasms and sprains, helpful in treating bruises, fungal and bacterial infections, coughs, flu, and laryngitis.
