As I woke up this morning, I could feel the energy of gratitude that will undoubtedly swell each day as we approach Thanksgiving here in Canada, consciously thankful for what we have in our lives and looking forward to cherishing the time to be spent with our family and friends.

When we are grateful, we are more connected…connected to our hearts, our compassion, love, kindness and forgiveness and the energy of this gratitude flows though us, extending into our lives; perhaps a little more at this time of year.

When we are connected we are in alignment with all of these wonderful attributes associated with being grateful. There are times however, when we are not connected but rather disconnected. It’s very easy to know at any given point in our day where we are and when we are connected, it is impossible to behave in any kind of disconnected way.

October is Child Abuse Prevention month, at least here in Ontario and other provinces and countries also bring attention to helping the millions of children affected by emotional, verbal and physical abuse at other times throughout the year.

Those who know me are well aware of how close this issue is to my heart, and it is my intention, as I continue to follow my passion and purpose in life being a voice for these children, to shed even more light on this important issue, inspiring as many people as possible to become self-aware of how connected they are, not only in October, but every day.

Our children are waiting for us to look at how we are showing up for them and want us to hear that even the seemingly simplest of phrases like, “I’m so disappointed in you” sends such a disempowering message to them, not to mention the disapprovals, shutdowns, control and anger we project in whatever role we may play in their lives.

I know from my own experience that awareness is key not only for expanding the peace and contentment that gratitude begins to stir into our lives, but is necessary to break the cycles of these disconnected behaviours, creating the harmony that we all desire in our homes, our classrooms and in our lives.

I knew that if I could do it, anyone could which inspired me to create an audio program called Breaking the Cycle; sharing my journey to self-awareness and offering practical tools that ca empower others to get connected.

Please help a child’s voice be heard. By sending this article to your family and friends asking them in turn to Pay it Forward to others in their lives, we can all make a difference as the momentum of the exponential power of sharing reaches out and touches the lives of so many children, one family at a time.

Wishing everyone a very happy, healthy and grateful Thanksgiving! n
