Buying a home water filtration system, without first researching the effectiveness and performance of the product, could be hazardous. Purification systems for the home are big business and everyone is jumping on the band wagon.

Even the Clorox Bleach Company has a line of filters. The name is in very fine print on the bottom of the box of their water filtration system. I guess they think that some people might be leery of buying a filter made by a bleach company, but who better to know how to remove chlorine.

There are several “multi-level sales” companies that offer a water filtration system, along with a variety of other products. Sears, of course, has their version. They sell everything else, so why not?

The really interesting thing is that of all the systems on the market, only one water filtration system is manufactured by a company that does nothing else. They don’t sell clothes or bleach or tools. They research, develop and manufacture solutions to the problems with our tap water. Needless to say, it is best filtration system on the market, in terms of certified performance, efficiency and price.

When you go shopping for a filtration system, there are a lot of good products on the market, but there are some things that you should avoid. Let’s start with distillers and reverse osmosis units.

Reverse osmosis units have been touted as the most technologically advanced filtration system in the world. The truth is that the technology is over fifty years old. The units were never intended for home use and the system de-mineralizes. Trace minerals make it taste fresh and are good for your health.

Distillation is the oldest technology. It was originally invented for processing liquor and whiskey. Like the reverse osmosis filtration system, it also de-mineralizes. Reverse osmosis and distillation are the most expensive and least effective against the chemical contamination that we have today. n
Of the top rated systems, most remove chlorine, but do nothing to block chlorine by-products. Some of the most harmful contaminants are THMs. They are formed when chlorine is used to disinfect. So, logically, if there is chlorine in the water, there are THMs.

The public water filtration system in this country is a great thing. It protects us from cholera and typhoid, as well as many other borne illnesses. But, it was never designed to handle chemical contamination. Pesticides and herbicides that are illegal in other countries are still used here. The EPA allows certain levels of these poisons to be present in public supply.

Some of the most famous filters do nothing to remove pesticides and herbicides from tap water. Distillation and reverse osmosis cannot remove them. Only the most technologically advanced water filtration system can block these dangerous contaminants. Shop carefully.

Just because the label says “pure”, doesn’t mean it’s really a water purifier. n
