We're going to continue with the article on marketing your business:nn2. Customer Service - this is classified; the key to unlock the door for your clients coming back to you remarkably in the salon business, and the critical element that transforms customers into clients. nnBy the way, did you know that customers and clients aren't the same? Would you believe that the words are even spelled different which ought to tip you off ... ha, but I'm just playing around with you.nnLooky here, a customer comes in to try you out and a client ... well they've already made the decision to make you their hairdresser. nnAnd how does this selection happen? nnIs it your personality or capability or maybe the atmosphere of your salon?nnFor me this is an remarkably easy answer when I'm looking for a hairstylist. Not only do I want one that's an expert with all that they do and I most definitely enjoy 'atmosphere', and I want someone that I can converse with and kid around with ... but I'm on the lookout for more. nnMost of all I want to be catered to like I was the only client my hair stylist had. And I would be brash enough to bet a dollar to a donut that you would feel exactly the same way when you get services from other businesses.nnCustomer service is the significant ingredient that makes this so important and what most don't know is, that you have to render more than your clients expect. nnNow consider this; 85% to 90% of all salons are like robots and do exactly the same thing to each person that walks in their doors, so would it be hard to give a little bit more than they do? nnTrust me it doesn't take much to thrill someone now days with some extra service.nnLet me give you something to meditate on, I did a survey to find out some real answers to some questions that I had about salons, and found out that not any of the people that I surveyed ever got a thank you card from their stylist.nnEver!nnIsn't that astounding to you, or is it just me that thinks that a 50¢ post card would be a nice way to convey to me that my hairstylist appreciates me and would appreciate me coming back. nnSo by you just writing a thank you card to your customers will tell them that you're completely different than all the run of the mill shops. And I can just about hear you saying ... I don't have the extra time to send cards to all the people that comes in here, okay, you don't have to. nnBut everyone that will take a few extra minutes at the end of the day and go through their customer list and send a card will reap some wonderful rewards. nnLike taking a customer to client status.nnSo how do you market your salon business? nnStart with some very inexpensive thoughtful ways that makes your clients think of you.nnYou might not believe this, but most hair stylists under-serve their customers.
