Do you feel tired every day and wired every night? That pretty much describes someone who needs sleep help. Insomnia can affect anyone. Almost everyone has trouble sleeping a few nights here and there. A surprising number of people struggle with insomnia all the time. Fortunately there are several options available if you need sleep help to get through the night.
You might only need to make some changes in sleep hygiene. But what is that exactly? In this case, hygiene has nothing to do with cleanliness. It does have a lot to do with habits. Do you have any routines you follow before bedtime? You should.
Sleep can often be improved when you try some new habits. For example, try going to bed and waking up at the same time every day. Even on Saturday. Even on Sunday. Even on holidays. You may think it's boring, but your body will love it. Your body will finally know when you want to wake up and when you want to go to sleep. So it will be much more cooperative.
Other sleep hygiene habits include avoiding physical exercise several hours before bedtime, reducing noise and light in your bedroom, and turning off your computer at least an hour before lights out.
You may already have good sleep hygiene habits. Or changing your bedtime routine doesn't help very much. There are other remedies available to you.
People have had trouble falling asleep for thousands of years. But prescription sleeping pills haven't been around that long. What did your ancestors do? They were masters at using natural remedies. It's easy for us to discount the effectiveness of these older solutions. But they may turn out to be safer and more effective than any modern remedy we've devised.
A warm cup of milk might be all you need. It's been recommended for centuries. Today we know it works because it contains amino acids that help your brain switch into sleep mode. Drinking chamomile tea is another excellent natural remedy for helping you fall asleep. You can also find sleep help by using valerian, lemon balm or hops. Valerian is a powerful, yet safe herbal remedy that calms your mind and body.
Several alternative health methods can also provide sleep help if you need it. Aromatherapy uses highly concentrated essential oils from certain plants. They can be used alone or blended in certain combinations. Appropriate oils could be added to evening bath water. Another effective way to help you fall asleep is to soak a cotton ball in lavender oil and place it by your pillow.
We've only sampled the many kinds of sleep help available. And you may have noticed that sleeping pills weren't recommended once. Insomnia can almost always be beaten with a combination of sleep hygiene and safe natural practices. With a variety of options available, you should be able to put together a personalized sleep program that works for you.
