There is no wrong way to Meditaten

I want to point out here that there are many ways to meditate. The correct way is the one that works for you. You may find after trying a few different methods that you like to use visualization or you may enjoy silent and soothing meditation.

That is one of the things I love most about meditating all of the different methods I have tried and can now use, depending on what my objective is. I will share a few here with you in hopes that you too discover the magic the way I have!nnn*If you are new to meditation, I suggest you find one easy technique that suits you. Get comfortable and familiar with it before experimenting. Once you have started to achieve the desired affect then you can try all different types. n

Meditation is Simple

It is a process of emptying the mind of all the clutter. This way you are open…to all possibilities. That is a simple definition. I didn’t say easy…but simple. With practice it will get easier, I promise!

Focus on the Breath

If you are new to meditating these easy techniques will start you on the process to a world where anything is possible!

1.Start by sitting in a comfortable position. Either sitting up with your legs crossed, arms resting on your knees, palms up or lying down if you think you won’t fall asleep.

2.It is a good idea to find a place in your home where you will not be disturbed. Carve out a special place just for meditating and return there each time you practice.

3. Starting with focusing on your breathing. Take long easy breathes in and long easy breathes out. Keep your attention on the rise and fall of your chest and abdomen.

4. If your attention wanders simply bring it back to your breathing.

5. Remember to take slow and natural breaths. This is meant to be very relaxing.

6. If you fall asleep, that is okay. When you wake up continue where you left off. It simply means your body is taking what it needs at the moment, rest.

7. Start out with ten-fifteen minutes and work your way up to thirty minutes a day.

8. First thing in the morning is the best time to do your meditation. Wake up ten minutes early tomorrow. This is a wonderful way to start the day.

9. Try to meditate twice a day if possible. Give your self another ten minutes in the evening. Before you eat. Six o’clock is a great time. This helps you unwind after a busy day.

Practice this on a regular basis. If your meditation is inconsistent the results will be inconsistent, or better yet nonexistent.

Mantra Meditation

This type of meditation is where you focus on a word or words. Here we will use the word “OM” which is a universal word/sound. OM is the sound the universe makes. It is a natural humming that resonates from all around us.

1. Start in a quite comfortable position. Either sitting up with your legs crossed, arms resting on your knees, palms up or lying down if you think you won’t fall asleep.

2. Take slow deep breathes in and out. Focus your attention above your brow and when you breathe in say the word “OM, drawn out…like this, “OOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM”

Take your time with this. You are not in a hurry here. You have all the time in the world. (or at least the allotted time you gave yourself) :)

3. Keep your attention on the sound you are saying while focusing just above your brow.

4. You can either say this out loud or in your mind. Which ever you are more comfortable with.

5. When thoughts come up simply notice them and go back to your mantra.

Guided Meditation

Another great way to start meditating is through a CD/DVD. I used a tape when I first started meditating, that’s how long ago it was. I started with a simple and easy guided meditation.

Listening to a soothing voice guiding me to a peaceful and magical sanctuary was just what I needed! There are many different types of guided meditation CD/DVD’s available. You can experiment until; you will find one or two that really hit home for you.

One of my first guided meditations tapes was Shakti Gawain's Creative visualization. This is a great CD to start out. Shakti makes it light and easy. All you really need to get started is a simple technique and before you know it, you will discover the allure the same way I did.

Meditating is my favorite time of the day!
You are really doing something positive and healthy for yourself, enjoy it!!

ey that begins asleep and ends awake.” …Buddhannnn
