By Christine Wheeler, MAnnNote: As Dr. Mercola frequently states, hospital confinement can be largely avoided with healthy lifestyle changes. Nonetheless, hospital stays are necessary in some cases and this article is designed to provide relief for those in such circumstances. What kind of gift should you bring to your friend or loved one who is in hospital? How about comfort and relief in the form of an easy to use healing tool like Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT)? Hospital patients are probably enduring medical tests and other interventions that are painful and uncomfortable. In addition, they may also have fears, angers and other intense emotions which can exaggerate their pains... inhibit their healing... or prevent their peaceful passing. Use EFT to soothe the suffering of someone in hospital. You are likely spending countless hours sitting at your friend's bedside, but feel powerless to ease his or her suffering. Imagine having a tool literally "at your fingertips" that you could use to give your loved one some comfort... to soothe their anxiety and pain... and even provide relief for their nausea, headaches and other problems. EFT qualifies as such as a tool and has performed admirably in countless clinical cases. This simple and gentle "acupuncture-like" procedure uses your fingertips, instead of needles, to balance the meridians of the body's subtle energy system... without interfering with any medical procedures. When meridians are balanced, healing can take place in the body, mind and spirit of the distressed patient. It is often surprising how quickly and efficiently suffering subsides with this procedure. The basics of EFT can be learned by anyone. You can apply EFT to yourself... or to a friend, loved one, or client in crisis. EFT is a perfect tool for patients to use on themselves... it empowers them to take control of their own healing... at a time when they may feel quite powerless. The same EFT procedure provides relief for someone experiencing post surgery pain and trauma, as well as someone who has fear and anxiety about their impending death.Because it is so portable, EFT goes where it is needed. Although EFT has an 80 percentsuccess rate, it doesn't claim to be a perfect healing tool or to be a cure-all.However it has been proven to provide healing, peace and relief to people who are suffering with a myriad of emotional and physical conce s.ThreeDifferent Uses for Bedside EFT You can read the complete cases on the EFT Web site Hypnotherapist and EFT practitioner, Holly Holmes-Meredith has watched many hospital patients move into a state of calm-- from pain to relaxation-- using EFT.She shares three stories of using EFT at the bedside of three different women.Breaking the Pain Cycle Using EFT Working with Betsy Holly's colleague Betsy* had been bedridden and immobilized for four days with severe back spasms. She was using vicoden which didn't seem to touch the pain and the only time she left the bed was to crawl to the bathroom. She had not slept properly infour days and was exhausted.Holly offered help and, although they were both hypnotherapists, she did EFT with Betsy to get to the emotional roots of this debilitating pain. Holly tapped the EFT points for Betsy while she lay in bed. Over the course of 45 minutes of EFT, Betsy addressed many emotional aspects of her back pain which included feeling resentful and not feeling "backed up" by her family. On a scale of 1 to 10, Betsy's pain had been at a "10" (very intense) and after the EFT treatment it was a more manageable "2." By this time, Betsy was exhausted and wanted to sleep. For the first time in four days, Betsy walked to the door to say goodbye to Holly.Holly said, "Finally her pain cycle was broken and she could get some sleep."The next day Betsy reported that the pain had greatly reduced and she had a good sleep. Later, x-rays showed that Betsy had a bone spur on a vertebrae and she was continuing to manage the pain with EFT and hypnosis.EFT Eases the Pain, Nausea, Dizziness and Low Blood Pressure After Major SurgeryWorking with Jan Jan*, also a hypnotherapist, was suffering in hospital following hip replacement surgery. After the surgery she was told by her doctors that she needed to walk around. However, she was in such pain that she could not get out of bed. She was also bedridden because she had dangerously low blood pressure and dizziness. Her stomach was too upset to eat and she was constipated. Holly did EFT for Jan, tapping around the IV needles. They addressed Jan's symptoms and also the emotional aspects associated with the pain-- her fear, anger, sadness and grief over having lost her hip. After about 15 minutes of EFT, Jan's symptoms had collapsed and she went to sleep. Later the same afte oon, Holly heard that Jan ate without stomach upset and walked for the first time without dizziness, her pain was manageable, her blood pressure normal and she had a bowel movement. All this was accomplished without drugs-- just 15 minutes of EFT.EFT Relieves Intense Fear of DyingWorking with Anna Anna* was hospitalized with a terminal case of cancer of the lymph system. She was on morphine through an IV and despite this strong drug, she was still in intense pain. Furthermore, she had an intense fear of dying. She gave Holly permission to do EFT and was going in and out of consciousness while Holly did the EFT work. Due to the large amount of morphine in Anna's system, Holly had no idea if EFT would work. But it worked remarkably well as Anna's pain level diminished almost completely. The anxiety, agitation and fear of dying also dropped dramatically and Anna went to sleep.Holly heard that Anna passed away peacefully a few weeks later.More on EFT Please note that in addition to eliminating pain, anxiety and fear of dying, EFT has been a consistently effective healing tool for hundreds of other physical, mental and emotional ailments. For more information, you can explore the EFT Web site and its numerous success stories regarding fears, phobias, emotional traumas and physical ailments.
