The Internet is starting to take over our lives. We can shop, bank, find a dentist, read the newspaper, date and watch exercise videos all online. So what about addiction recovery? In our information-on-demand type of society it was inevitable that people would begin looking online for their addiction recovery needs.

With treatment centers costing anywhere from a few hundred to over 40,000 dollars a month, the Internet is opening up options to millions of people that need it. Before, the only alte
ative to expensive rehab and counseling was AA programs. While they are free and many people have benefited from their treatment philosophy, the statistics state only 5% of attendees are still going after 1 year. Does that mean 95% are cured? Absolutely not. Many go on to recover on their own or they relapse into abuse.

So where do you turn if you can't afford to go to a private counselor or $25,000 treatment center and you don't agree with the AA philosophy? The answer for you is probably an online recovery program.

There are many places online to get drug or alcohol addiction information. You can start at the government websites. They have tons of up-to-date information conce
ing new advances against the war on drugs. The National Institute on Drug Abuse is a great place to start as are forums and drug/alcohol recovery chat rooms. There you can find support from people experiencing the same problems as you. They could serve as a type of mastermind mentor in your recovery. It's easier to follow in someones footsteps who has "been there, done that."

There are also ebooks that discuss addiction and interactive websites that can aid you in your recovery. These methods can be very beneficial because you do them from the comfort and confines of your own home. If you need to talk to someone there are even counselors online ready to help.

We are incredibly lucky to have the Internet as an online addiction recovery resource because it gives us all access to much need addiction care.
