Preparing for the FCC GROL & Ship Radar License

And heavily modified with improvements. rnGeneral Radiotelephone Operator License is required to adjust, maintain,rnor internally repair FCC licensed radiotelephone transmitters in thernaviation, maritime, and international fixed public radio services. rnIt is also required to operate the following: rnAny maritime land radio station or compulsorily equipped ship radiotelephone stationrnoperating with more than 1500 watts of peak envelope power. Voluntarily equipped ship and aeronautical(including aircraft) stationsrnwith more than 1000 watts of peak envelope power. rnQualifications: To qualify for the GROL, you must:

• Be a legal resident of (or otherwise eligible for employment in) the United States.
• Be able to receive and transmit spoken messages in English.
• Pass element 1 (MROP), and element 3 (GROL) written exams.

The FCC GROL License is good for the licensee's lifetime. To Obtain the GROL License, submit to the FCC Form 605 along with the appropriaternProof of Passing Certificates for elements 1 and 3. Many Commercial Operator License Examination Managers file these documents forrnapplicants who test with them. Ask your COLEM if it provides this service to its customers. Marine Radio Operator Permit is required to operate radiotelephone stations aboardrnvessels of more than 300 gross tons, and vessels; which carry more than sixrnpassengers for hire in the open sea, or any tidewater area of the United States. It is also required to operate certain aviation radiotelephone stations andrncertain coast radiotelephone stations. Element 1 - Marine Radio Operator Permit

• Element 3 exam consists of questions in the following categories:

Ship Radar Endorsement question pool: 300 questions.rnTo pass, you must correctly answer at least 38 out of 50 questions.(76%) rnIn the exams, the order of the choices and answers may be different fromrnthe question pools. Things you will need to prepare for the GROL License are. good book to study for the GROL License: scientific calculator. Not a programable one.rnA programable calculator is not allowed to be used during the exams.
