Lake Side Cafe has lined up an exciting summer series of vegetarian cooking classes for the Roger’s Park community and beyond.

With the growing trend of organic, healthy eating, we are seeing in shops and restaurants, this series will be a fun way for cooks of all levels to learn how to make wholesome meals from scratch. Lake Side Cafe’s own vegetarian master chef, Dacia Lange, will guide participants through all aspects of the meal-making process from the choosing of ingredients through preparation and then, of course, the eating!

While the classes are designed to be an enjoyable learning experience, the underlying value will be to provide participants with the skills to create delicious meals with the excellent health benefits that vegan and vegetarian cooking offers.

Lake Side Cafe brings these classes to the community after the many requests it has received since it opened in October 2005. It will provide all the materials for the classes, including all-organic ingredients and take home recipes. The aim, says owner Amona Buechler, is for “friends and family to get together, learn hands-on healthy cooking, and have fun!”

To promote the friends-and-family feel of the courses, a special 50% family discount is being offered, where only the first family member pays full price, all others receive a 50% discount (proof of ID is required).

Classes will take place on Sundays, noon to 3pm at Lake Side Cafe, 1418 W. Howard. The dates and themes of the courses are: June 29 - Vegetarian Sushi (roll like a pro!), July 13 - Indian at Home (secrets of sensuous curry) and July 27 - 4 Grains, 4 Ways (more ways to make more delicious meals!).
