Do you think rich? Do you see all the possibilities for prosperity and contentment available to you? Do you know for a fact that you will get all that you want out of your career and your personal life?

To get it all, you must think you will. Getting everything you want starts in that mind of yours.

That's good news then, isn't it? It's all in your belief and point of view. It's your mind, you control it. The bad news is, on a daily basis, most of us come from a perspective of lack… rather than abundance.

Your dictionary.com's definition of abundance: "a great supply; more than sufficient quantity"

Clients tell me "I don't have enough money. I'm not happy in my career and I can't seem to get where I want to go."

So often, especially when we are feeling down, we don't feel like we'll ever "get ahead" and we have a hard time seeing the possibilities of abundance that are there for us. And so, a cycle begins. We don't like our job, we don't see any changes coming anytime soon, we feel low, we see everyone around us doing better than us, we feel even lower, we aren't open to any possibilities that the Universe has for us… and we sink even lower…Sound familiar?

I've been there. I spent 10 years basically frustrated and unhappy in my career. I had successes… but, they always seemed so fleeting. So temporary. I couldn't get a lasting feeling of contentment. My times of feeling abundant were way too few and far between. And in retrospect, I see now, it was all my mindset.

Long before "The Secret", a good 50 years before Anthony Robbins or Dr. Wayne Dyer, Wallace D. Wattles was blazing the self-help trails with his books on the riches of life. In 1910, he wrote his book "The Science of Getting Rich", which he says is a "practical manual, not textbook theory" and "an exact science… in which failure is impossible". He credits the ideas to Hindu origin and says in his preface, "… if you wish to reap the practical fruits… read this book and do exactly as it tells you to do".

"Ok, then, I will", I thought. I'm in search of fruit… and if this is where "The Secret" came from, I'm all in.

And within the first 50 pages, I got it. My career until now flashed in front of my eyes. My career mindset… my personal mindset… will never be the same.

"You must get rid of the thought of competition. You are to create, not to compete for what is already created . . . You are to become a creator, not a competitor! You are going to get what you want, but in such a way that when you get it, every other person will have more than they have now."nn- Wallace D. Wattles

No competition? What do you mean? Every other employee, every other person in the world for that matter, is trying to get a piece of this Universe, right? And they all want what I want… and I want what they want…? So, how can we ALL have it?

Spoken like a true "lacker". Fear of lack. It's in your mind and it's not the truth.

Wattles explains that if you are competing for something that is already created, you are coming from a limited supply mindset. In other words, you believe that there is not enough to go around. So, if you get the job, for example, someone else will not… and vice versa. Well, this means there are limited opportunities that can only be "taken away" from each other.

In a competitive mindset, nothing is secure and nothing is permanent. Nothing is ever "yours"… and can be taken away at any time. No wonder then, I was almost always fearful and frustrated. I never felt like I "owned" anything, because I was sure that someone would take it away from me at any moment. I absolutely believed there was a limited supply of opportunities and I had to fight tooth and nail to get them.

I was so caught up in that fear and frustration, I wasn't open to creating anything. Although I am in a "creative" business, I wasn't visualizing creating my own opportunities. I was completely dependent on competing for opportunities that were being created by someone else. And it was all consuming. I was completely unaware that I was limiting myself. I thought the business was limiting me.

So, think about this for a minute. Are you operating in a limiting competitive mindset? Say a co-worker gets the promotion you wanted. How do you feel? Do you get defeated and say, "I can't believe she took that from me!" or do you think, "that wasn't my promotion to begin with, I'm happy for her"?

I know, it's not so easy. But, the more you expand your mindset into the reality of the abundance of opportunities, the easier you will find it. In fact, the implications are freeing. By knowing that there is enough for all of us to prosper in this Universe, it releases any guilt you may have in your success. You need not worry about "taking away" anyone's job… because there is plenty for everyone.

Your abundance mindset will open the doors for you and all of those around you. In fact, it is your responsibility to accept the abundance! Because when you prosper, all those around you prosper. That's the deal.

Truly understanding abundance, that there are unlimited opportunities in this Universe, expands you to a prosperous mindset. You will no longer feel the need to hurry to claim your space, to put yourself in a state of panic because there isn't enough room. You will create your own space, and there will be plenty of it. Everything you do in this mindset creates new opportunities, opens doors to possibilities you were blind to as a person of lack.

So, challenge your mindset to abundance:nn - Think of your goal as your gift to the Universe. You want it and you deserve it. You will create it for yourself and when you achieve it, the Universe will benefit.nn - Know that there is enough supply for everyone. When you reach your goal, you are not taking it from anyone else. You will be creating more for everyone!nn - Believe that when you are at your best, those around you are too.nn - There is no such thing as someone "cornering your market"; there is always room for you and your purpose.nn - True abundance is celebrating your victories with those around you. Everyone prospers.nn - You are available and willing to all the opportunities that arise. You are creating them, and they may come in unexpected ways.nn - Reserve your "competitor" for sports, where definitive games can be played and scored.

This abundance mindset flows into every part of your life. You will feel opportunities and energy flowing into your personal life, career and finances when you loosen your competitive grip and open up to the Universe. Find peace in the belief that you will have everything you want. There is enough, if you think there is.
