What fold do you want?
You can choose any fold that you want. However, some folds are suited for different purposes. Here are some of the folds that you should consider:

  • Bi fold – this type of fold can be done by folding your brochure once, right through the middle. This type of brochure can be used as greeting cards and holiday cards.
  • Tri fold – this fold can be done by folding the brochure three times. This type of fold is usually used in letters or formal business transactions.
  • Z fold – as its name suggests, the brochure is folded so that it resembles the letter Z when you fold it. The Z fold is usually used for maps and other similar items.
  • Gate fold – this type of fold is usually used in invitations to formal engagements such as weddings and dinners. The brochure has two flaps that open like a gate.

Digital or offset printing?
The number of copies and prints that you want will dictate the printing service that you will get. On the other hand, when you want to go for short run and print on demand then you are better of when choosing only the latest of digital printers.

Here are other differences between the two printing methods:

  • Digital printing method – this is the method that uses direct to printer technology that allows you to upload your file and print directly. The printers of this method spray the ink from top to bottom and simultaneously add the finish that you want.
  • Offset printing method - this method uses plates to create your prints. The plates are fed to different ink rollers and the ink is stamped through your substrates making the bond between the substrate and ink very strong. They also have very fast impression speeds that help them produce bulk orders fast.

What paper to use…
There are a variety of paper stocks that you can use. You can use text or cover stock depending on your preference or strategy. Text stock is thinner than cover stock but it is easier to fold. Cover stocks are more durable. Also, remember that pt is a measurement of how thick the particular piece of paper stock is. On the other hand, lb refers to how heavy one ream of particular stock is.
