The key to running a successful business of any kind is providing the customer with what they want in a manner in which they want it. This is a sweeping statement and comes with many caveats but is essentially true.nnNow I generally think it is good to look to the positives and focus on what people want but in this instant lets take a look at the flip side. While we must provide what the customer wants and needs we must also remove what they do not want and will not tolerate. This is where many business owners and managers drop the ball and really lose out.nnSo here it is, the fastest way to ruin your business is to become profit orientated. nnA fatal mistake. Any business that makes profit their main focus has focused on the one thing the customer could not, and should not care less about. Now this is not to say we should not pay attention to profit, of course we should, it’s very important, it’s just not the most important. nnA customer is concerned with meeting their needs, if you have a genuine interest in assisting in this, the cost of the service actually becomes irrelevant within reason to most people. It is your concern for them that that are happy to pay premium price for. The sale is simply a by product of that concern.nnIf your focus however it profit, and you are fooling nobody by the way if you think you can hide that, then the customer is parting with their hard earned money for them to meet your needs. Do you see how this works? Who’s going to do that? Reducing service and increasing cost is first class foolishness and will end in failure.nnForget about making profits and focus on providing service and benefit, do this and you will have profit like you never imagined possible, I promise. Look to how you can give more, not get more. Remember, life is a mirror, you reflect back to you your own behavior. If you focus on how give more, your customer will behave accordingly and be overjoyed to give more back to you.
