In my 30 short years here on earth I have had a wide range of life experiences, from fundamental Christianity, to addiction…. One thing I can say of my adventure filled life, is that it’s never been boring, and I’ve never felt stuck. Not for very long at least. That’s why I find it so interesting that I seem to attract stuck people into my reality…. Or they seem to attract me. That’s phenomenon in my life is a subject for a whole other article.n
In my unofficial study of people suffering from stuckitis I have noticed these common themes….nn
The nobility of being stuckn It’s fascinating to me, how many people see a nobility in being stuck. I suppose that is what keeps them there. Staying in a marriage with someone they can’t stand “for the kids” staying at a job that they hate “for their retirement” or staying in any paradigm because it is required by the parameters of a religious belief that they have already outgrown. Very few people really stop to question their long held beliefs, even the ones taught to them in the Sunday school of a religion handed down to them by their parents, one that they do not even practice themselves. First of all morality is not the blind adhesure to rules laid out by others. It is the choices made based on strong personal conviction…. Living any other way is not living, and I believe that we rob ourselves of valuable life experiences if we live life by the rules of other rather than the conviction of our own sprit. As for living life in an unhappy marriage for “sake of the kids”, I find that is almost always a cop out. For the sake of ones fear of change may be more accurate… Children raised in the home with two miserable parents often grow up to seek out similar relationships. Whether they be volatile and full of fighting, or cold and numb, neither are healthy or ideal, or anything I would suffer to teach my child. Staying in a career that one cannot stand is just plain fear, based in the belief of limitation. I have gotten the speeches from my elders that I need to start plugging away at a job with 401k, or else I will have no hope of a nice retirement, but I don’t believe that is what my future has in store for me. I believe I am on my path for a reason. I also know that reality is created by my thoughts. If you believe that you will fail if you leave your job, then by all means stay….. Because that is what you will experience, if that is the theme of your thoughts… but know this, it is only because it is the theme of your thoughts.n
The heredity if being stuck
I can’t even count how many people I know who are blindly living a life that their parents told them they were supposed to live, while their talents, dreams and destiny sleep within them. For a lot of people, that’s just what you do…. Sleep walk through life, and people who are living their life for mom and dads perception tend not to question it, out of fear of being different. This seems to lead to a sort of self loathing, hating ones self for not “wanting what they are supposed to want” What does that mean? What are we “supposed to want”? So many people are trying to fit themselves into the 1955 box and it just isn’t happening. You don’t HAVE to stay married if YOU DON’T WANT TO you don’t have to stay at that job just because it pays so much. You don’t have to buy a house or get married or spend the rest of your life in your home town IF YOU DON’T WANT TO….. If your parents love you they will accept your choices, and if they don’t accept them , its because they don’t know how, and that isn’t your problem. The truth is if you follow your joy, you will begin to live a life that NO ONE can deny is one based in goodness, and spirituality.n
The complacency of being stuck
I often marvel at how few people ponder. Pondering is a huge part of my life, I ponder the nature of reality, the afterlife, technology, evolution, personalities, religion.. I ponder everything that crosses my path. I have an insatiable curiosity for everything unseen, and I don’t understand how anyone gets so caught up in this game that they forget that it is a game, ignoring any inner dialogue. I used to believe that the caught up people were just lost in mankind’s amnesia, now I think that they are caught up in mankind’s complacency… Pondering takes energy, and questioning our reality means they we will probably find room for growth, which will require us to change… sometimes change is hard, sometimes its scary, and growth almost always hurts while we are going through it. Being stuck hurts a little, but when we convince ourselves that we are doing the right thing, or at the very minimum we are doing wheat is acceptable to others…. Then we die a slow death, a silent death, a spiritual death. n
At this state in the human evolution, finding our own joy is critical. We can no longer find comfort in worn out patterns, and realities written for us by others. Creating our own realities, is what creates our evolution on this planet, therefore it is our duty as evolutionary agents to find happiness….. Our happiness. I am not suggesting that anyone go file for divorce or put in their two weeks…. I am only suggesting that you question everything that doesn’t make you feel alive… because that is what we are here for.. To LIVE, not just existnnnn
