Time Takes Time

Over the first couple of weeks of the New Year, I have reviewed the 12 Steps as part of trudging the road to happy destiny, looking after my own mental hygiene, sharing to help and putting together an E-Book. I love to keep those steps simple.

I had to learn early in my journey, and something I see others struggling with- it takes time to get the knowledge and experience of what recovery is and to feel it happen in your life.

eyer said to me “Time takes time” and I increasingly understand what was meant. There is no short cut to experience.

Many people, and I include myself in this, want “it” (whatever “it” may be) and they want it NOW. If it feels good, then so much the better. Often, when they do get “it”, they have no idea of what to do with it.

As I rose through the ranks of the corporate world, I wanted it all yesterday. Funny, the thrill of each promotion and the increased money quickly lost its luster and I learned that I had to work at it, and with each new position, I got better with experience. The same has been true in the journey to a life I love and in building a spiritual life that is my foundation for living. Personal relationships; the same thing holds true.

As I begun the journey of life recovery, I wanted what others who had been on the trip had, and I wanted it right away. The first time I worked at the steps, I did them very quickly, did them on the surface, and got something, but very little out of them. To get the benefit took time and hard work coupled with a lot of help.

To realize my dreams in life outside of recovery took a huge amount of outside help from experts in fields I had no expertise in. I had dreams. For them to happen, they needed to be put into goal format, action had to be put against the goal, I had to do the work and had to be held accountable at each step of the way. Based on the growth and foundation doing the 12 Steps in order, and thoroughly had given me, I have been able, over time, to create a complete life through a holistic process. It has truly taken time.

The time spent has now given me the time to search and find my life’s purpose, to do the work that was required to allow me to live it, to set a vision, and slowly but surely work toward just doing it. 14 years ago I wanted the life I have today right then! But as I know today, time takes time!

Take the time you need to trudge the road properly. If you do the things that are needed, build on experience and “wins”, get healthy mentally, physically and spiritually, good things will happen. You get the great results when you take the time to be ready for them.
