For many employers, effectively communicating with their staff members is a matter of necessity and one of the hardest aspects of business to master. After all, you are trying to nail down the art of communicating thoughts, ideas, processes and procedures to a group of people that all possess different methods of communication. So, how do you effectively communicate with you staff? Here are some tips:
- Keep the lines of communication open --- and simple: The best form of communication is all about making sure that your message is easy to digest. Anytime you have information to communication to your employees, make it as simple as possible. In fact, incorporate the old rules of journalism in this instance: tell them who, what, when, where, why and how. Anything else can be communicated on an individual basis. What is most important is that you communicate the most important aspects of your message.
- Understand your audience: There are different levels of messages for different people because everyone communicates and interprets in a different way. This does not mean that you are demeaning people, but rather giving respect to everyone by understanding their individual ways of communicating. As an employer, it shows that you are giving them a certain level of consideration. Therefore, be aware of who you are talking to in your employee pool at all times and tailor your message to fit the group.
- Be a good listener: Part of being an effective communicator is being a great listener. Employees appreciate it when they feel as though they work for a company that is willing to listen to what they have to say. Becoming a good listener will help instill a better sense of loyalty among your staff members.
