I went to bed late last night… You know, I'm working very hard during this economic recession.

That's a joke, of course. The truth is, as an author, I like to work different hours, odd hours. So I did go to bed late last night, and was thinking nothing about the morning.

I had a few appointments, so I get myself up to my first appointment at 9 a.m. I get out of the appointment at 9:30 a.m., and you know, I'm a little bit hungry.

Well, what is there? There are two good restaurants in Green Hills in Nashville, where I was. One of them is called Noshville…it's a take-off of a Jewish deli shop. Good sandwiches, good breakfast—but I said to myself, "That's a sit-downer, I'm on the run."

There's another good restaurant there, and then there's McDonald's! So I swoop over, and I look to see what can I get. I'm thinking, "Oh, McSkillet Burritos!" I order my McSkillet Burrito. It was ravishingly good, much, much, much better, by the way, than a Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Biscuit would've been—which I could've had, right?

Then I'm driving on, and again, I'm thinking about this economy stuff all the time. It's pretty much on people's minds. Turn on the news, read the newspaper, talk to your neighbor, talk to your friends, whatever it is—everybody's saying sales are so horribly down.

But McDonald's was full. Oh, by the way—I had a chance to speak in Spanish, because the Latinos, the immigrants that are coming here, take the jobs that Americans wouldn't dream of accepting. So I'm talking to the lady, ordering in Spanish. And here's a test: how good is your Spanish?

"Quiero un McSkillet Burrito, pero solamente tengo un billeto de cien de dolares. ¿Puedes cambiarlo?" Y ella dijo que si.nn(Translation: "I want a McSkillet Burrito, but I only have a $100 bill. Can you change it?" And she said yes.)

Anyway, there were people working, the place was full, there were people spending money. Do you catch my drift? It's good to be flexible when times call for it. When things have shifted in the economic landscape, that means things have shifted. Somebody's working, and usually it's the people who are willing to do more, maybe take less—the people who are willing to be flexible.

Somebody's working. Somebody's sending stuff in those trucks on the roads.

So get flexible. Don't buy into the bad dream. These times are not that bad for those who want to be flexible—for those who recognize that it's a signal from the universe that you need to shift. It's a signal from the universe that the old, outdated ways are just that, old outdated ways.

For you, it's a time to move into the future. It's a time to be flexible. Right now, as a matter of fact, I'm involved in a transition. I'm betwee
Panama and the U.S., and I'm without a secretary. And I was just recently telling someone that I would normally have my secretary enter this data, these orders. Right now, I have to do it all myself.

But hey, it is what it is. What you've got right now is what you've got right now. You're going to solve the issue today. No big deal.

Get on, my friend, because you are exceptional.
