Willing Women Do Sister Act

A single sister act of kindness, reaching out to sisters, mothers, daughters and friends. In my case, my friend was sick with breast cancer. What do you do to support? Do you whip up your favourite chicken casserole recipe, or is the no bake cookies recipe more your thing? I can relate to that!

My cooking skills aren't great, so I knitted scarves instead. My knitting isn't much better than my cooking! I knitted for many months, which is saying something! Considering I'm not a knitter, to keep my stitches on the needles, and sides of my scarves straight, was no easy task! I donated my scarves to women suffering with breast cancer. I thought women having a difficult time, may feel loved and cared for, by being given one of my scarves. I doubt many will share pics of my scarves being worn, however it does help to make me feel useful, by doing a sisterly act of kindness.

How do you support your women friends with this breast disease? What do you do? What works, what doesn't? Please help us to understand what we can do to be helpful. Sometimes it can be difficult to know what is the right thing to say or do for friends and family in need. Sometimes it can be difficult to decide what's best - to follow your heart or your head in deciding on what to do?

Often we get it wrong. Maybe out of thoughtlessness, maybe out of not reading the situation correctly, maybe it is through a lack of understanding. However, real friends have the best of intentions. Women wanting to do a sister act, want to support and care for their friend. They are there for them, through the good and the not so good. When sitting on the fence trying to figure out what to do to show your friendship to a woman in need, remember it is better to do something than nothing. Fear can hold us back. Get off the fence and find a way to show you care. Yes, you might get it wrong in what you say or do. I have been known to put my foot in it and completely do the wrong thing, despite trying and wanting to do get it right. But I think it is better to be slightly off with your intentions, than not to do them at all.

So sisters around the world, value your friendship with the women in your family, your friends and your neighbors. Appreciate the special bond women have with each other and be there for them through all the good, bad and ugly that life will bring. Get off the fence, pick up the phone, get out the cook book and ask your friend what you can do for them. Life is journey!
