Maintaining a motorcycle is made easier by keeping and checking the manual frequently. However, if you are one of those who don't keep the manual, the following are a series of guidelines which will help you to make sure that you are keeping your bike in mint condition. Before you ride, it is important to conduct a pre-ride check prior to riding the motorcycle. First, check the condition of the tyres to ensure that there are no objects lodged within the tread. Additionally, make sure that the tyre pressure is correct as this is essential for a safe ride. The oil level should also be checked along with the level of coolant. Take a moment to check the motorcycle chain's tension and lubricant along with the functioning of the brakes. And, of course, all lights should be in working order. After checking all of these parameters, it is time for your ride. Every now and then throughout the riding season, make sure that the connections of the battery are tight. In addition, ensure that the level of electrolytes is correct and that the carb balance of the bike is as it should be. Although it is not simple to balance the first time around, the more you do it, the simpler it will become. Although it is not necessary in all bikes, ignition timing is sometimes essential particularly in older models. Periodically, it is also necessary to check the valve clearance. This is more difficult so it will probably be essential to take this to a mechanic. The wheel bearings should also be checked. This can done by grabbing each of the wheels while the bike is elevated. You want to make sure that the wheels do not move sideways. While the bike is still elevated, grab each of the forks and attempt to move them to ensure that is no movement. Additionally, ensure that the swingarm does not move when the back wheel is elevated.
