I feel affection for these wild birds and I know how important it is to have a water source for their drinking and bathing. Do you feel the same? Wild birds are best drawn by bird baths. We have cared for and fed the birds here for many years, since 1970 in fact. These birds are a great delight. They never fail to amaze us with their beauty, songs and tricks. Every now and then, when I sit outside my bench, a bird would also sit on my head or knee. In this place, people and birds live harmoniously, as a family should be. Every creature who comes here are always welcome and they learn to live in peace with one another. It works! All living creatures drink water, so do birds. However, birds frequently have a tough time finding water. Bathing is one of the necessities of birds to keep them clean and fresh especially when the climate is hot and dry. When birds are unable to bathe, their dirty feathers can't function properly in flying or protecting them from elements. The first thing you want to do is find a location that is safe, so that birds can see around the area and be aware of any predators. Birdbaths are not safe for birds if put in or near many bushes. Any beast hiding behind the bushes can easily pounce on them. A garden fountain can be placed under a shaded area like under a tree. The birds can sit on its branches. Birds will feel safe on a tree branch, drying their feathers. Don't place the bird bath under a feeder since the droppings will pollute the water. Make sure you provide clean, fresh water every few days, changing the water every day in the hot summer months. Still waters left in the open or under the sun can grow algae. Birds will less likely be attracted to a birdbath with filthy water. It would also be difficult to clean. Am I right? It is wonderful and interesting to watch the birds in the garden fountain. They bathe by dipping their bodies and then splashing some of the water on themselves. I've witnessed birds after taking a bath, they fly, sit on a tree branch and groom themselves. I love watching this process. It appears that the birds are merrily doing it. The birds produce oil for their feathers, making them resistant to water and long-lasting. During this time, dirt and insects are also taken out from the feathers. The most natural birdbath is a puddle. When choosing a birdbath, see to it that it is round or oval-shaped, not more than three inches deep. It must also have a textured surface to provide secure footing. In case the texture is too smooth, you can put flat rocks or gravel at the bottom. A variety of birdbaths already exist in the market. We like the ones with the solar operated fountain. The sound of dripping water seems to draw the attention of the birds. There is also a type of birdbath that thaws frozen water. This is very useful for birds during winter.
