One in four relationships today begin online. Some people are very shy when it comes to meeting someone and feel more at ease searching form the safety of their computer. And with so much to do in a day, it's hard for others to find the time to meet someone at a bar or a nightclub. So many people just like you are turning to the world wide web to find fulfilling connections. Wondering how to get started? This internet dating guide will lead you in the right direction.

One question you should have a clear answer for in your mind is just what is it that you're looking for? If you just want to see people socially, that's fine. If you're looking for long-lasting relationships that's okay, too. But be certain what it is you want at this stage in your life to help make this experience both fun and painless.

Online dating is a very successful business based on the large number of websites that offer to match you with prospective candidates for a fee. Check out a few different sites and see what their clients have to say about the success rates, and see what sites have services that benefit you. Being registered with more than one site will help you find a partner faster. It will also give you the chance to do get more comfortable with dating again if you've been out of the scene for a while.

Once you've chosen a couple of sites, get started on your profile. Begin with your photo. Choosing the right photo is key. You don't want to be misleading and post a picture of yourself from ten years ago, but you should choose one that is both flattering and casual. Remember, you'll eventually see the people who choose you, so be honest in the photo so there are no surprises later. Also be sure the picture quality is good, too. A fuzzy picture won't attract as many viewers as one that is clear with good lighting.

Now get started on the headline. The headline is a short caption listed next to your profile. It should be short and catchy and original. A boring headline won't make people want to read more about you.

The rest of your profile will be a more in-depth description about who you are. Now is not the time to write your memoir and list all of your accolades, because you need to have something to talk about on the date, right? It doesn't need to be written like a resume, either. Instead, it should keep the same friendly tone you used to write your headline. Maybe mention that you like pets. But don't mention that you've got four cats each named after a member of the Beatles.

So you've got your profile done and you're ready to start talking to your potential dates. Remember to approach this experience with the right attitude. If you go into it expecting it to fail, it will. And if the first date doesn't work out, that's okay. It might take a while, but stay positive and upbeat. In fact, try not to have any expectations and just have fun. Whatever the outcome of the date, having done it can be a positive encounter.

One last thing to talk about in this internet dating guide is safety. Meeting online is no different that meeting someone in club. Use common sense when going on a date and make sure someone knows where you'll be and with whom. Meet in a public place so that there are people around in the even things get uncomfortable. And of course never give your date any personal banking information or any other information that could be harmful to you if they know, like social security numbers.
