The dominance of fast food in our lives today has reached perhaps the highest levels ever in history. It can reasonably be compared to the presence, aggressiveness and dominance of the deadly tobacco industry in the 1960s right through until the 1990s. This is an indirect way to say fast food has become a very integral part of many people's day to day menus due to the stress of an extremely busy life as well as a pressing economy. In the same way as tobacco, fast food has been linked to severe consequences which include diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, kidney disease, cancer and many other life long diseases. It is at the center of the growing obesity epidemic in the United States and many parts of the western world. This means fast food is not good for our health. At the same time due to economic and social reasons many of us still find it very difficult to go without food that is easy to prepare and cheap for that matter. It is in this context that various methods and strategies have been thought through and tested which may over all help us eat healthier even as we find ourselves eating fast food time and again. To begin with it must be realized that one of the fundamentals of a healthy life is living an active life. This means setting aside time to burn some fat off our bodies. There is essentially no replacement to an active lifestyle. This means the fundamental tip of eating fast food healthy is to ensure that we keep ourselves healthy in order to burn the extra calories we take in whenever we visit the fast food joint. Secondly it is extremely important to regulate how much fast food we eat. If it were possible we would stop eating it altogether. However the assumption here is that it is just not possible at this stage. This means we need to tilt the balance of how much fast food we take in say on a weekly basis. Make an effort to eat whole foods such as whole grains accompanied by lots of fruits and vegetables. The good thing here is that fruits and veggies require very little preparation and often are found cheaply. When you visit the fast food joint there are practical actions that you can take in order to lessen the impact of what you are eating. To begin with go for smaller portions say of your fries. Studies show that over the last 30 or so years our portions have doubled and even tripled. This means more calories, more obesity and more overweight individuals. Pick less to eat. In addition also eat lots of salads. Most fast food joints now carry veggies and menus that resemble something healthy. Just remember to avoid some of the dressing which often actually is unhealthy and will take away from your efforts to eat healthy by eating salads. rnThese few tips will make an effective difference in your approach to fast food. One more thing is to also replace your soda that usually comes with your fast food for simply water. Water is healthy and flushes out your body well.
