With the new year setting in, people everywhere are considering their new year’s resolutions and goals as we start afresh. According to a 2007 Harris Interactive survey, only 42% of American workers consider themselves ‘very satisfied’ with their jobs. As much as 58% of employees have some discontentment in relation to their work. Ramon E. Dees, a local career coach, says there are three areas that will help anyone to find the career of their dreams. Not only can you do something that lines up with what you’re “hard-wired” for, but you can make that transition in 48 days as thousands of others have.nnThere are three areas people need to consider when reflecting on their career, and planning next steps. Those area include interests, abilities, and personality traits. At the intersection of these defining character qualities, each one of us possesses a uniqueness that makes us an asset when we understand our value in relationship to the needs of a potential employer. We must remember that we are valuable to others to the degree that we meet their needs, wants, and desires. So…here’s the key, when it comes to your career, “What need are you meeting right now as it relates to the pain of your employer?” On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being poor, and 10 being excellent, where do you come in as an employee. The lower you come in on that scale, the less secure your position is. If you want job security, find out what you do well, and develop your ability to market your unique value to the right market. No matter where you are now, we all have the capability to be a 10 in some area. Find and develop this area, and you will be in demand.nnIf you are seeking traditional employment, then a good way to look at your job search strategy is to consider, what problems are you naturally good at solving? If you solve people problems, you may fit well in the human resources department. If your manager is one with a very busy schedule, and mounds of paper on their desk, and you do well organizing and filing, and assisting with preparation for upcoming engagements, you may do well as an administrative assistant. nnThe key to your career success is identifying what your core competencies are, knowing how your values empower you to connect to your daily tasks while at work, and being in an environment that fits with your personality style. Once you have clarified those three areas, you are well on your way to a more fulfilling career.nnHistorically, career professionals have noted an undeniable correlation between personality style and job compatibility. People who attempt to work in fields that require personality traits they either do not have, or don’t have enough of…tend to struggle at best. Needless to say, struggling employees are the last ones to be promoted or receive raises during the annual review. With today’s workplace changing the way it is, employers can easily outsource their work to people who often increase productivity at a lower cost. Thus, today’s worker must be in touch with how to find the environment that is ideal for them.nnIf you are struggling with where to start, feel free to ask Ramon Dees your single most important question concerning finding the career of your dreams. You can do that at www.AskRamonDees.com. One of the things many people need is a little coaching from someone who can take an objective look at their life, and offer objective feedback and constructive criticism concerning how we can position ourselves for success and significance.n
