Allergies can affect both humans and animals so treatment is certainly a very important topic. If your dog shows any symptoms such as excessive itching, coughing, flees, dry skin and other physical effects, you definitely need to consider some dog allergies treatment options. Don't worry though as this article will take you through some of the options you have to get your pet back to pristine health. There are many types of allergic reactions that you dog or pet may have. One of the more common types is known as atopy which is also known as inhalant allergies. Your pet may experience these problems throughout the year or on a seasonal basis. Some other types are food allergies and contact dermatitis. One of the best ways of treatment is avoidance. Prevention over cure is probably one of the best ways to avoid this problem as it can be quite costly to treat. Some of the allergens that usually trigger attacks are house dust, pollen, mold and dust mites. If you have these present in your house, it is best to treat the cause of them not only for your dog but also for yourself and family. These same substances also trigger allergies in humans, so you will be doing your pet and yourself a huge favor. You can definitely help to keep your dogs clean especially when they play in the yard or in the grass. You can reduce any effects of pollen by keeping your lawn low and by bathing your dog after every play session. Many times these preventative measures are enough to keep any health problems at bay. However, if they are not enough of the problem is too far along, then you should definitely look at some over the counter solutions. One of the more popular one are topical medications. These can be purchased as pet shampoos which you can use to bathe your pet with regularly. Make sure to read the instructions properly before applying them as it can go a long way to giving your pet the relief they need. Another great form of treatment that you can use is antihistamines. Antihistamines have been used and been found to be very effective when treating pets as well as people who suffer from allergic reactions. The rate of success is currently at 30% for dogs and a whopping 70% for cats. If you use these along with fatty acids it has shown to be even more effective. Another form of treatment is the use of steroids. The use of steroids is actually very controversial and people either have a very negative or positive view of this treatment plan. If you have been unsuccessful in finding other solutions to work, this might be the only solution that is almost guaranteed to be effective. If your pet is suffering from very severe itching, pain, coughing and other allergy related attacks, this will definitely work. Even though steroids have been documented as being very effective, it is very easy to over abuse their usage. One thing to note about steroid use is that they almost always have negative side effects in both the short term and long term. In conclusion, we have just covered some of the most popular suggestions for effective dog allergies treatment. These solutions have proven to work, just remember to take the necessary precautions to ensure the lasting health of your pet.
