A Getaway to the Glamorous Nice

Nice is a city located in the extreme southeast of France 30 km from the Italian border, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. It is located at the mouth of the Paillon River, bordered by the Bay of Angels and surrounded by several hills. It belongs to the department of the Alpes-Maritimes and is the second city of the Provence-Alpes-Cote d'Azur area (PACA), after Marseille, located 230 km from that and nine hundred and sixty from the city of Paris. It is one of the largest municipalities in France (348 721 inhabitants in 2007, the great Nice has 940 018 inhabitants (2006), is the fifth largest city in France by population after Paris, Marseille, Lyon and Toulouse. Weather

Nice has one of the most pleasant times in mainland France. It is a Mediterranean weather, with mild and humid winters (with average maximum temperatures of 12 to 14 °), and hot and very dry summers (with average maximum temperatures of twenty-three to 27 °). Frosts are rare and rainfall in summer is very puny, while in autumn they are frequent, as are violent storms, while temperatures are still high in this season (20-24 °). This season is also marked by the sirocco wind that brings a slight heat wave and transports sand from the Sahara.

The architecture

The neighborhoods built after the annexation of France in 1860 are of a more austere and Haussmanian style: although the streets are wide and rectilinear, the stone replaces the colored facades.
