A hidden cam has come a long way from how it was originated; both in terms of its size and quality of image produced. With the leap in science and technology, the sizes of this electronic device has considerably decreased, making it so minute that it even comes embedded in pen and wrist watches. However, the good thing is that this has been achieved without increasing the cost of the cams. In fact, their prices have actually decreased to a great extent, making it in the reach of every person. Owing to its extremely small size, hidden cams are also called as camera miniature. Its minute size makes it possible to be embedded in objects like wrist watches, spy pens, door knobs, air purifier, ipods and many more objects. Designed with extreme engineering, these devices are capable of recording very sharp images without giving even a slight hint to the person being filmed secretly. A hidden cam can be classified into two types – wired and wireless. As is familiar from the name, a wired spy cam has wires that are attached to recording devices like TV set, computer or other device for recording the videos being shot. On the other hand, a wireless cam is easy to hide as it does not have any wires. Its working principle is based on a transmitter and receiver. The transmitter attached to it transmits video signals that are received by a receiver kept in a close radius, which records the videos. A camera miniature or hidden camera can be used for a large number of purposes which include household surveillance, security audits, surreptitious activities, sting operations etc. It is also used in reality television shows to minutely examine the activities of the participants. Although the participants are aware that they would be filmed, but as the cams are hidden, they often get caught in unusual or absurd situation. A hidden cam is called by different names depending on the purpose for which it is used. When used for child care surveillance, it is called as Nanny Cams, as they are used for watching the activities of the caretaker of the child. When used for security purposes, they are referred to as security cameras. Similarly, Lipstick and miniturized cams are also available in market, which are mainly used for surreptitious photography and videography. Although called by different names, these cams fall under the same category of hidden cams or camera miniatures. The hidden cams are used in a large number of activities and that discussed here is just a slight highlight of the power of spy cameras.
