Simply press the trigger to snap shut the picker cups onto the targeted trash/object with 17 pounds of pressure. That’s enough to grip onto heavier things like a snake or a dead rodent (that is if the need arises). Also, the trigger is pretty smooth and doesn’t leave your fingers hurting.
