I was about to write off the tail end of The Office, Season 7, as a show that was ready to sink without the character of Michael Scott, but now I am rethinking that. The script was actually pretty funny, especially when it came to interviewing the management candidates. The funniest conversation came from Will Arnetts character, who told the search committee that he had a 3-Part Plan for ramping up profits, but had no intention of sharing it. If you hire me, you get the plan, he told them. However, he did agree to giving them part 3 of part 2. Good comedy writing. It made me laugh, but it also made me draw a parallel comparison between this and sharing SEO advice. Truthfully, no SEO expert will divulge the entire SEO plan, because each expert has had to learn what does work and what does not work the hard way, over months and years of efforts. Building up the right kind of traffic to a search optimized website requires continual, trackable, hard work and few search professionals are willing to have their inside knowledge be a completely open book. True, there are best practices that we all know and adhere to. Also true that good results are the result of labor, and not because we know secrets that others do not. The first SEO tip I have for webprint pros is this: be sure your web presence has back end fields for metadata. Metadata is data about other data. In other words, this bit of data tells the web crawlers what they will find on a particular web page. They will index their web pages with the goal of placing them on a Google results page.
