A high-tech fable In the beginning… Mind creates. That’s basically what it does. That’s its basic function. Mind is a creative machine. rnBefore long, we meet mind. As our instrument. We let it do its thing. We’re too busy, innocently having fun in the here and now.rnWith the help of the senses, mind perceives, substantiates, calls a spade a spade. It then moves on to cognition and interprets sensory perception. Mind thus begins to develop patterns, complexes, mechanisms. Mind builds bridges between things. Mind forms orderly connections between events and creates time. Fine. It’s all part of the mind program. rnBut soon something unexpected happens. We intervene. We come to believe we are mind. We identify ourselves with the mind machine. rnAnd mind goes crazy. We allow mind to rob us of our true identity and act on our behalf. We become afraid. We lose control. We want control. We entangle ourselves more and more in mind’s clever schemes. Mind has managed to become indispensable. rnWe fall ill with ego disease. Our true self, pure awareness, remains dormant within. We are aware, but have forgotten we are awareness itself. rnBut life is our best friend. Unbeknownst to mind, it conspires to awaken awareness. It teaches us about ourselves. It teaches us we had been living at the mercy of mind’s automatic unconscious currents. It teaches us that as above, so below. It teaches us that as outside, so inside. It teaches us we are life itself. rnHence, aided by life, as we reluctantly begin the return journey home, we catch glimpses of our true nature—indescribable islands of bliss in an ocean of putrid suffering. Slowly, but surely, we drop our conditioning; we learn to fly.rnEventually we no longer see life as a projection of mind. We become objective. We are experts. We reprogram the mind machine. We learn its ways. We delete obsolete responses. We let new and improved commands creep into our daily chores. rnBut we are cautious. We have matured. We know better not to upset deeply ingrained mind and its defense mechanisms. We reprogram mind and leave it alone. No more need for control. And in the end… We make proper use of mind. We allow it to perform its basic function. We allow it to work for us. We are busy once again, consciously having fun in the here and now.rnMind creates. The way this happens, conscious or unconsciously, is up to each one of us. Copyright © 2011 Ron Wyn All rights reservedrn
