I am 34 years young. I prefer it to say in this manner rather than the other standard way. And I’m writing this letter to myself - to my present self, and to my future self, and to my eternal self as well. This is the letter I will never forget as I want to document how I feel being thirty four. And if I do forget, I’ll dig it out in my files and reread it when I feel nostalgic for those adventurous young years… Young? Do I actually mean that thirty four is young? Not so long ago, I was thinking about guys of these personal numbers as “middle-aged ones.” No, I’m not middle-aged. Middle-aged is 50 or 60… or 70, but not 34. So, I am young. But not so young, as I was when I was 18. Thank God and the universe for that! Now I feel I have entered the golden age: I am willing and able; I am experienced and energetic; I am daring and sharing; I know what I want and I’m determined to get it. I feel great and challenged. I am happy and I am active. I am fulfilled and still not totally content so as to continue the pursuit of my dreams. I am grateful for what I have in my life and I want more. Just a year ago or so I had the Aha moment and I connected all the dots in my head. I mean all of the known-to-me dots. There are many more, of course, and I will be discovering them as my personal numbers continue increasing. For this moment though I got clear for myself on these four things. Purpose. I am here for purpose. As any human being, I have my grand mission: to provide valuable services to the humankind in the field of my choice. I have to figure out what the field is, master it, and help people around. No matter what my calling may be: being a manager, an author, an artist, or an entrepreneur, I have to be good at what I’m doing. When I am good at something, I can help others. Mediocrity is not helping anybody: it’s a cheap commodity that is in abundance everywhere. Good-enough-just-to-pass-by is a twin sister of mediocrity. I am not a slave here; my working time is over is its twin brother. I didn’t’ know it when I just started working and well until much later years of professional experience. It’s great I know it now. Time. Time waits for nobody. It’s like water in the river: it never stops and carries me on. I can either stroll around going someplace where it will take me or make a vessel with sail or a boat with paddles or a jet ski so that I am in total control of my direction down the river. Time is the same for everybody. All of us have those 24 hours in a day. I am not an exception. But what I do with that time is my prerogative and my responsibility. Looking back at all those younger years, I notice how much time I’ve been wasting by procrastinating and engaging in non-important activities – those undertakings that neither made me particularly happy nor helped me advance to any specific goal. It’s great I know it now. Money. Money is there to earn and to… save. That’s right. It’s not just to spend. It is to invest. Money is to invest in myself, invest in my future, invest in my dreams, invest in my life, invest in my choices, invest in my freedom – but not to merely spend. And of course, I’m not speaking about purchasing bare necessities. It is rather related to all those extra sums that all of us have to a different extent, but most of us utilize in exactly the same way – spend it all to the last penny and even a bit more – as much as the credit cards allow. We buy new clothes, we buy new cars, we buy new houses, and we buy many more things that are not in proportion to our earnings. I wish I had known this simple truth 10 years ago. It’s great I know it now. Action. Goals may be interesting. Goals may be simple. Goals may be breathtaking. Goals may be outstanding. Goals may be bizarre. Goals may be anything, but they remain simple dreaming or wishing, if you wish, unless they are realized through persistent action. Persistent action is the best synonym for success in life. It’s great I know it now. Having written this I feel much better. My thoughts are “on paper”, my mind is clear, and my intention is high. I fly as high as I dare to try.
