A Little Tidbit About Me

Last couple of weeks have been quite a whirlwind. Since I was a little girl, I have always had a love and fascination for animals. Our family has always had cats, so they were my first love. As an adult who owns a home, a dog (or two, or three!) seemed the natural progression. My true love throughout has always been rescue. As I sit typing this, I am surrounded by a menagerie, 8 cats and 2 dogs. Tucked away in the guest room is a little 18Lb foster dog whom I just saved. She came to me with chemical burns on her back, and many pellets from being shot with a pellet gun under her skin. She was scared of pretty much everything. The world she came from required that she fight for her life, for food, for everything. I will show her a new life, of compassion, and kindness, and love. Then I will find her a forever home that provides all these things, and we will part ways. This for me, is a labor of true love. My life without rescue is unimaginable.

How, you ask, does this relate to life coaching? More so than you might realize actually, I reply. The pets I rescue, rehab, and re-home are such an example.

1. When you want something, ask for it.
2. They forgive sometimes atrocious acts of neglect and abuse, and give a person a second chance.
3. They accept each new day as a new beginning, and don't dwell on the past.
4. They learn from each other.
5. Enjoy the sunlight, and a good nap when you need it.
6. No matter how bad things are, they always get up and keep going.
7. Chase what you want.
8. Get comfortable.
9. Play.
10. Protect the ones you love.

All of these things are fundamentally important in obtaining our goals. For example, if you want the promotion, but don't ask for it, can you really expect to be considered? Do you forgive and give yourself a second chance? Are you still hung up on what went wrong yesterday? How teachable are you? Do you know when to take a break, or a nap, and regroup? How many things have you left unfinished or undone? What lengths are you willing to go to? Are you comfortable with your progress? Do you balance between personal and professional? Do you conduct yourself in an honorable and ethical manner?

Each of these topics is completely valid in the forum of coaching. Each has the potential for enormous impact. Each thought came from interaction with one of my furry friends. There are certainly lessons to be learned every day, everywhere, in many places. Its really just a matter of being cognitive, and taking inspired action. Not that I am expecting you to eat kibble or chase a squirrel or anything!
