The following poem posted recently on the Lung Cancer Alliance Survivors Support Community is about defying odds, debunking the myth of prognosis, and maintaining hope and faith in the face of a terrifying diagnosis. More fundamentally, though, it illustrates a daughter’s unbounded love for her mother, whom she considers her best friend.nnMore than two years ago, Gail Webb’s mom was diagnosed with cancer and told she’d live maybe a year. Gail says it’s a miracle she survived, because just two months before she was told she had cancer, she suffered a heart attack and had a heart stent implanted, so no one wanted to perform the potentially life-saving cancer surgery. But ultimately they found a surgeon, and today Gail’s mom is happier than she has been in many years.nnThe poem is titled, “Cancer Can’t Kill Love”, but the first letter of each line of the verse spells out what it’s really all about.nnMy heronOverjoyednMiraclenSaviornnCance OutnUndonRemembe AngelsnGracenEpiphany,nnCandidnOutpouringnMy momnPrayersnAnswerednSurvivalnSuccessnInspirationalnOnly God decidesnNever give upnn&nnLovingnOpen-mindednVisionarynEvery day we live & love is a miracle.nnAt the end of her post, Gail adds, “The best gift we can give anyone dealing with cancer is love and compassion. Origins Little is known of the early years of Sai Baba of Shirdi. Even his name is unknown as Sai Baba is not an appellation in the usual sense. Sai is a term of Persian origin, usually attributed to Muslim ascetics, meaning holy one or saint. Baba, on the other hand, is a Hindi term attributed to respected seniors and holy men, and literally means "father". So the etymology of Sai Baba means "holy father", "saintly father".
