If your sexual life is a cause for concern, it's time to educate yourself about the different aspects of your sexuality and the associated dysfunctions. Male sexual dysfunction is one of the most common causes of rift in relationships. Therefore, it is important to understand these different forms of sexual impediments in men, and how you can address them in order to keep the related problems at bay. The following list explains the most common forms of sexual dysfunction in men:
  1. Lower Interest in Sex (Libido Loss): This kind of sexual dysfunction is marked by non-responsiveness to the sexual stimuli. There is a considerable loss of sexual interest among the sufferers due to one or more factors, which will not be discussed in this article.
  2. Erectile Dysfunction (ED): This is the most common cause of sexual discontent among partners. Erectile dysfunction is marked by failure to achieve and/or maintain an erection during sexual intercourse. Earlier known in its crude form of 'impotence', the medical professionals have realized that the term does not correctly represent the disease.
  3. Premature Ejaculation: This is another common sexual dysfunction affecting millions of men across the globe. It is characterized by achieving an orgasm too early, i.e., sexual climax is reached in an unusual hurry, which is not anticipated by either partner.
  4. Retrograde Ejaculation: This is a rather rare condition where semen flows backwards during ejaculation and goes to the bladder instead of exiting the body through the urethra.
  5. Insufficient Ejaculation: This condition is marked by low semen volume released at the time of orgasm. This could be a by-product of retrograde ejaculation.
  6. Delayed or Inhibited Orgasm: Many men also suffer from failure to reach an orgasm during sex primarily due to decreased penile sensation.
  7. Penile Abnormalities: If subjected to unusual circumstances, activities or injuries, the penis may become physically damaged or deformed. In such cases, achieving sexual satisfaction becomes more difficult, if at all possible.
Causes of Male Sexual Dysfunctions Most sexual dysfunction cases are the result of some kind of psychological issue being faced by the suffering man. It could be depression, stress, strained relationship, anxiety, performance related excitement, past sexual abuse or trauma, low self-esteem, guilty mind, or other preconceived negative notions about sex. The important aspect here is to identify the source of the problem and address it by consulting an expert. Libido loss and premature ejaculation are commonly, though not compulsorily, caused by some psychological issue(s). Excess alcohol intake, side effect of drugs (like antidepressants and blood pressure medications), smoking and obesity are some of the avoidable causes of male sexual dysfunction. In case you are having trouble fighting these causes, a medical professional can be a great help. Abnormalities, like hypogonadism (lower testosterone levels) and Peyronie's disease (penile curvature), also cause male sexual dysfunction. Injuries to the penis can also seriously impair normal sexual activity. Additionally, certain medical conditions can trigger sexual problems in men, like a stroke, nerve damage from diabetes or surgery, atherosclerosis (hardening of the arteries), kidney disorders, or hypertension.
