Credit cards are very useful and convenient and can help you save the hassle of carrying money for your purchases. They can help you with build a credit history that can determine your borrowing capacity for activities like home loans, higher education loan etc. With a majority of purchases being made through the internet, it only makes sense that you use a credit card for convenient shopping. Credit card companies often reward people with cash back bonuses, travel insurance, frequent flyer miles etc. to reward frequent users. Because credit cards allow you to spend money that’s not readily available, it’s easy to overspend and risk a debt. Anyone and everyone who’s ever had the misfortune of having incurred a credit card debt, knows how difficult it is to get out of one. Whenever you miss a payment you inadvertently contribute to a bad credit limit that can affect your future chances of a mortgage, insurance and even job. Sadly frugality is a virtue that’s practiced no more. The media too plays its part by hyping up spending and compelling people to buy more than what they can afford. The first and foremost thing to do to avoid a credit debt is to choose a credit card company with care and consideration. If something’s too good to be true; it probably isn’t. Companies that promise low teaser rates for six months seem lucrative when compared to companies that promise higher interest rates for a year. However this isn’t the right choice if you cannot pay back within the stipulated period. For every missed payment there are strict penalties and heavy interest rates. Another thing to look out for is the freebies that the company offers. Some companies allow an automatic increase of credit limit. They however compensate it through heavy penalties for payments missed. There’s also a list of all other fees and fine that’s levied. We often sign up for a company that penalizes you heavily for a missed payment or charges you for an increased credit limit, thinking we’re never going to default a payment. It’s a proven fact that credit cards often make you think irrationally. Immediate gratification becomes very important and we often end up, making unwise purchases. And at the end of the sphere lies a debt that’s very difficult to get rid of. Take time to shop for a card that can be customized for your needs and requirements. With the market being saturated with service providers, it isn’t impossible (albeit difficult) to find the right card that has low interest and fees.
