"Just as physical energy comes from diet, exercise and rest, emotional energy comes from the ways you take care of yourself emotionally -- living in a way that makes you feel inspired, hopeful, self-confident, playful, loving and in touch with what you care about most," - Mira Kirshenbaum.
When we feel drained we automatically suspect our physical energy has not be looked after. So we jump to the energy boosting drinks and ingest copious amounts of vitamins. But have you considered that possibly it could be your emotional energy that is suffering?
Fears are very real for most people. Allowing fears to dominate our psyche takes up space in our minds and there is no room for present thoughts of happiness, love and joy. Worrying about fears is exhausting. Crying over our fears is just as debilitating. Our emotional energy suffers; we become exhausted and listless and then our fears gather force and strangle us as vine does a garden.
So I say with great enthusiasm and confidence – look in the mirror and smile. Light up the bathroom with your pearly whites. Your smile says, “Boo” to your fears. When scary things niggle into your mind, shift your focus on the happy things already in your life. Think of a person, a pet, a place or situation that brings a bright smile to your face. You know the thought that you have barely touched upon before your face stretches and a smile so big and luminous can be seen by the space station.
Fears and worries shrink from the power of a smile. They run in their own fear to recesses of the psyche. Fears can’t compete with happy thoughts and don’t put up much of a fight after all they are “sissies” otherwise they wouldn’t be fears would they? We all know the fears are just bullies of our inner being. When our inner being smiles it gains power. You remember the physical reaction that happens when you receive or give a smile? It is warmth that spreads from the pt of your stomach all the way through your body. Sometimes it even feels as thought that “glow” rises out of the top of your head into the stratosphere.
Now that your smile has chased your fears to the places they belong you can tackle those little monsters on your level and tame them. It is important to remember that fears are friends. Not great ones but ones that have a purpose in anyone’s life. Fears are teachers. From every fear there is a lesson to be learned. Think of a recent fear that you have worried about and then reflect on the lesson that you learned – it is very valuable part of your journey. Having scary things interrupt your journey are important fro growth but do not need to be drawbacks to you living the life you always were meant to live.
So energize your smile, keep positive people around you, focus on happy and joyous thoughts and stay focused on all the great, wonderful things that are already in your life and are about to enter your path. Your emotional energy will thank you.
