Today you can find different types of diet plans available for you to lose weight and improve your health, but most people fail to lose weight even after following the diet properly. In 1970, Walter L. Voegtlin who is a gastroenterologist said that most of the people suffer from various modern diseases just because they follow the modern diet. Thus, he proposed a diet which was followed by the ancestors and was very healthy, the diet is called the Stone Age diet or Paleolithic diet. The Stone Age diet is also known as low carbohydrate diet. Basics The Stone Age diet is considered to be a simple diet. In this diet, the dieters eat what the ancestors used to eat, by avoiding all the modern food items. The dieters consume fruits, vegetables, fish, meat and chicken, berries and nuts etc. They avoid consuming dairy products, grains, salt, sugar, beans, potatoes etc. The main aim of the Stone Age diet is to depend on simple food items that are free from carbohydrates and also avoid processed modern food items. The idea behind the Stone Age diet The idea behind the Stone Age diet lies in the fact that even though the food items that people consume today have changed drastically from those of the ancestors, the human body has not changed that much. Today people depend on food with high carbohydrate content like potatoes, dairy products, beans and grains replacing the food rich in vitamins that the ancestors used to consume. Dr. Ben Blazer says that this is one of the major reasons why today people suffer from different kinds of diseases. Studies have also proven that the ancestors didn’t suffer from any of the modern day diseases that people suffer from today due to the unhealthy diet they follow. The ancestors used to hunt and eat fresh food items that were not processed and it is considered to be healthy food. Some people even say that the ancestors did not suffer from modern day diseases because their life expectancy was small. Plus, they also burned out their excess fat through exercises like hunting. But today people take in food rich in calories, fat and cholesterol and they fail to do proper workout to burn the excess fat from their body which in turn results in various complicated diseases like heart attack. rnBenefits of the Stone Age diet In the Stone Age diet people strictly depend on vegetables and fruits and hence they consume food rich in nutrients and vitamins unlike modern day diets that are rich in carbohydrates. By following the Stone Age diet you get a lot of benefits, you can get free from the dreadful diseases that modern day people suffer from. It really helps reduce the risk of various diseases like diabetes, heart attack, gluten allergy and many more. Drawbacks of the Stone Age diet As this diet avoids the consumption of diary products it lacks calcium and vitamin D. Depending on the food that you consume the diet may also lack protein. Thus people who depend on the Stone Age diet should try to get calcium, vitamin D and protein by consuming the right vegetables and meat so that the deficiencies can be compensated. As this diet lays emphasis on consuming raw fruits and vegetables, the dieters may suffer from food borne diseases.
