Beasts in the Bible represent governments or kingdoms (dominion of kings), but they are represented by fierce beasts of prey because of taxation, war and bad laws that do not represent the equality and wisdom of biblical laws.

The imagery of Revelation 13 combines lion, bear and leopard, and dragon as each kingdom assimilated the previous one and the papacy survived them all with worldwide influence now--10 horns with crowns suggest completeness. Clues in Revelation 17 can only fit the papacy.
Verse 5 calls it Babylon, a term meaning confusion, with a call to come out of her and partake not of her sins and receive not of her plagues, Revelation 18.
Throughout history, Rome has used force to secure conformity to its teachings that claim biblical tradition, but a look at Christ’s famous sermon on the mount discounts traditions, “In vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men,” Matthew 7:7.
In that sermon, He said “when you pray, use not vain repetitions as the heathen do” (Matthew 6) and in a closing message, He said, “Call no man father,” Matthew 23:9.
The government in Christ’s time was corrupt and oppressive; with crying abuses,—extortion, intolerance, and grinding cruelty. But He didn’t try to change the government or interfere with those in power. Not because He was indifferent to the woes of men, but because the remedy did not lie in merely human and exte

Evangelical Christians fail to see that “Antichrist” can mean in place of Him. When people pray to dead saints and go to a priest they call “Father” and believe that he can forgive their sins or get them out of purgatory (a word not found in the Bible), this is a religion of replacement--in place of Christ or anti-Christ.

This is not against sincere Catholic believers who worship God with mistaken views. God winks in times of ignorance, but commands repentance in times of judgment when more information is available. Acts 17:30,31.
