Candida yeast infections result from the overgrowth of yeast, a type of fungus, anywhere on or in the body. Candidiasis is the more common type of yeast infection as it results from the natural candida organisms that thrive within us. The human body contains natural fungi that live both in our digestive system and on our skin. While there are more than 20 species of candida, the most common infections are caused by our own viable organisms. Under certain conditions, they can become out of control and cause an infection. Particularly in warm moist areas, candida infections can express themselves as thrush, jock itch, vaginal itching, diaper rash and nail fungus. Whatever the cause and whatever the symptoms, once noticed, you will require candida yeast infection treatment. Typically, your skin protects you against outside yeast infections. However, any break or tear in the skin can provide a source for stubborn yeast to enter. The elderly are highly susceptible to candida yeast infections as their skin integrity tends to be thin and brittle. Unfortunately, for the elderly, candida infections go undiagnosed as current medical science does not test for yeast infections. This is of particular mention as the elderly would benefit from candida yeast infection treatment. It is here that the majority of the elderly will be placed on worthless antibiotics which perpetuate the problem even further. In adults, oral yeast infections become more common as age increases. Yeast infections can occur around dentures, in loose skin folds and nail beds. The good news is that candida infections can be cleared up quite quickly with proper treatment. In severe cases, candida may spread throughout the body. This is referred to as a systemic yeast infection and can be quite serious. If left unchecked, it is estimated that 45% of may die from this situation as medical science routinely does not test for this condition. This in that of itself is a shame as yeast infections are easily treated when properly diagnosed. Also, yeast infections that constantly return may be a sign of a more serious illness such as diabetes, leukemia, or AIDS. rnCauses of candida yeast infections include the use or overuse of antibiotics, chemotherapy, and certain medications. Yeast organisms are found in the vagina of 20% to 50% of healthy women and can become uncontrollable if the delicate balance of the uterus is compromised. Antibiotics and steroid use tend to be the most common reasons for yeast overgrowth, as is such with birth control pills. Yeast infections are also most common with menopause. In any event, if the consumer is educated with regards to the causes of yeast infections, measures can be taken to employ proper candida yeast infection treatment.
