Are you tired of buying over the counter acne treatments that don't work? Are you fed up with spending money on expensive prescription medications, and not seeing any results? If so, you might be ready to try a chemical peel for acne treatment.

A chemical peel might be a viable option for those with mild to moderate acne. And you can find a treatment that will fit your budget.

About the Acne Chemical Peel

During the treatment, a product that contains acid is applied to your skin. The purpose is to remove the outer surface layer of the skin. Over the next few days or weeks, the surface skin will slough off and flake away, and new, healthy skin will takes its place. The new skin will have fewer acne blemishes, and less noticeable acne scars. It will also be smoother, and have fewer lines and wrinkles.

While a peel might have great results, the effects often aren't permanent. Acne blemishes might begin to reappear, and scarring may start to become more pronounced and visible. In those cases, you can either return to your dermatologist or cosmetic surgeon for another chemical peel treatment, or you can use an at-home peel.

Cost and Recovery Time

The cost of a chemical peel can vary widely, depending on the type you choose to have. A light chemical peel can average between $200 and $300, while a deep treatment can cost anywhere from $2000 to $5000, or even more. Fortunately, even a light peel can have benefits for those who suffer from acne.

How long it will take to recover from the procedure depends on the kind of peel you choose. If you have a light peel, you can be out and about, going about your business as normal, just a few hours later. However, for a deep peel, you would have to stay home and rest for around two weeks.

Possible Side Effects

Those who have light or medium peels usually experience mild side effects. These can include redness, dryness, stinging, flaking and, in some cases, minor swelling.

For those who have had a deep peel, the side effects can be much more pronounced. Their pain and swelling will tend to be more severe, and they will usually be given medication to help ease pain and discomfort.

Using a chemical peel for acne might not be as common as some other treatments. But many have found it to be an effective and affordable way to deal with acne and acne scars.
